As an internet marketer, I never really appreciated the benefits of using an autoresponder until I installed one on my sites. Before, I just set up sites and left them like that until a fellow online friend pointed out to me that I am leaving a lot of money on the table by not capturing the details of people that visit my sites.

Well just for the record, autoresponders are basically programs that enable you to automatically respond to your emails without you having to physically do it yourself. However, there are a good number of reasons why you need an autoresponder in your online business apart from just answering emails.

For example, autoresponders can be used as a tool to send information about your products, services, updates, price lists to your subscribers. Or alternatively, maybe you just want to offer your site visitors access to your recent articles or newletter etc. An autoresponder will enable you to do this. In addition, you can build up a target list of subscribers that are interested in your products or services by building a special relationship using autoresponders.

Autoresponder programs are becoming very sophisticated nowadays and they vary from software that run with your email program to complex scripts that run on your servers. These scripts could use a web page form or simply operate with your email account. Scripts such as this are generally programmed to send out a standard message whenever an email is received.

Other autoresponders can do a lot more than sending out standard messages. I currently use autoresponders that enable me to send out an unlimited number of follow-up messages at predetermined times over a seven day period.

Autoresponders also have the added advantage of enabling you to personalize your messages by attaching your signature. Signatures are more or less like your business card online. In most cases, you can include your name, business name, web site details and all your contact numbers and addresses in your signature address. It is always a good idea to attach you signature address to every autoresponder email sent out as this remindes your subscribers of your business identity. In all honesty, the more your subscribers look at you signature, the more likely your online business will spring to mind when you particular product or service is required.

There are a number of good autoresponders out there that you can use. Some are free and others you have to pay for. I personally stay well clear of free autoresponders. Two good ones I strongly recommend and use myself are Aweber and GetResponse.

Summing up, Autoresponders are a powerful and effective marketing tool to use in your online business. They enable you to collect details of hundreds potential customers. Autoresponders will enable you to build relationships with your potential customers who are a invaluable asset to your online business and also enable you to automate a large part of your internet marketing campaign.
