Opening up a new restaurant takes a lot of money. A new oven, range, steam table, and cold storage units are expensive and will require a lot of upfront costs. However, choosing used appliances can save a new business owner a lot of cash. There are many more advantages than there are disadvantages to purchasing used pieces. If interested in learning more, continue reading for tips to help finding food equipment for sale less confusing.

Some appliances that all restaurants must have is an oven, range, steam table, griddle, and burner. The best suited for restaurant use is gas. The gas appliances heat quickly and do not have parts that break easily with heavy use. If space is an issue a standard and convection oven combination works well.

You will also need cold storage. The size of your refrigerator and freezer should be based on your projected volume of meals served. If you are expecting to serve a large quantity of food then consider walk-in storage. Other wise, quality stand alone units are safe and efficient for smaller amounts of food storage.

One of the main benefits of finding food appliances for sale that has been used is the amount of money you save. You will be able to use it instead on your first food order, insurance, or payroll. You may also save more money by using the same vendor for most of the pieces. Ask them for a free prep table, pots, pans, or small appliances. They may very well give it to you to establish a good working relationship.

A lot of restaurants fail which means there are a lot of second hand pieces that have been used for only a year or two. If you decide to go to an auction find out how long the restaurant was in business before closing. Also, examine the pieces for any major damage. If you decide to buy from a vendor, try to negotiate the price. Do not be afraid to give them a counter offer on the price. They are used to negotiating.

Now, for the disadvantages to buying used equipment, which by the way are not many. The pieces are going to be sold as is, so if it does not work when you plug it in, you are out the money. In addition you now have to purchase its replacement. One tip is to examine each piece before purchasing. Also, gas ranges, ovens and fryers usually work well no matter how old. Just check the calibration on the fryers and get the instructions on how to change the oil.

You also will probably not be able to get the warranty with the item. That really is not much of a disadvantage because restaurant equipment is almost indestructible. Also, if something breaks or is missing, you can find replacement parts easily.

When opening a new restaurant, finding food equipment for sale is going to take a huge part of your start up money. Seriously consider buying second hand pieces. Find schedules for auctions and talk to vendors.
