How to get more customers? And in your case, how to get more readers? That can be a big issue.

By publishing your own book, you actually must accomplish all the tedious work usually executed by publishing houses staff: proof-reading, layout, rewriting, but also PR, press release and marketing.

And in fact, marketing is the real foundation of any successful business: if you can't find enough customers, you make no money, and you're out of business in just a few months.

If you really want to focus your attention on building a wealthy business, you should actually start with marketing. With great marketing experiences or skills, you promptly will be able to really and deeply know what people want.

Not what they need, but what they want. And that is one of the secrets of successful publishers. So go on Google, and extensively use their free Adword keywords tools, where you will be able to discover what actually people type when researching.

What does it mean? Knowledge is your most valuable asset: how could you expect selling books to people, if you ignore what they want, and how they say it?

This is especially true with non-fiction books: did you know that travel books were down in response to the economy and 9/11 since 2002? Too bad if you wish to mainly focus on books of that kind...

Another cheap way to feel the market trends is Amazon: take a look at their famous best-sellers lists. You could be surprised by what readers really seeks.

Just like everybody in Internet marketing, you have to find your niche. Only famous publishers can afford a big advertising campaign to sell a new author or a new trend. Small players have to follow the big guys, and after, educate their audience to propose something a little bit different.

Using Google and Amazon tools as a marketing method is really cheap. It doesn't take long to set up and it's even quicker if you use your own method.

Don't forget to use your search engine and do a web search everyday. You will find many tips and clues that are available on whatever subject you are interested in, and that apply to your business.

In order to keep in touch with your readers/customers, build a squeeze page and a sales letter, and send regular emails through Aweber.

So, take action now and do that this week:

1/Google and Amazon search on keywords

2/Write a squeeze page and a sales letter

3/Start a campaign with Adwords using the right keywords

4/Watch your first customers buying your book!
