There's no denying these days that looks count and if there's a way to maintain a youthful appearance, people will most certainly start lining up to have a go. Of the more popular treatments, Botox Injections have arguably become the most widespread, and with a track record of providing great results, it's no wonder more and more men and women are spending their money on them.
But before you head off and book your appointment, you should make sure you know what to expect, especially as there are a lot of unskilled and dubious practitioners out there. Below we describe how the procedure should be performed.
The Procedure
Typically the procedure takes around ten minutes depending on the site and the amount of treatments you're having done. What's more you don't need an anaesthetic, and this benefit has given rise to the "Lunch Hour Facelift" that many women take advantage of.
Initially, the practitioner will assess your face and decide where you would benefit from having the botox injections. To do this, s/he will ask you to move the muscles in your forehead and face. To blithely inject the muscle in the same place for each patient is wrong, because all patients' muscles are shaped differently, and therefore you should ensure that your practitioner is skilled and most importantly experienced.
The injections themselves are carried out using a very thin needle, and most patients report that there is only minor discomfort; a sensation similar to that of a pin prick and certainly not like having a vaccination. The injection takes a matter of seconds, and once the needle is withdrawn the sensation desists. A great benefit of the procedure is that patients do not require any recovery period afterwards, which means you can get back to your routine straight away.
The Results Although you won't see any results immediately, you should start to see the results within about 3-5 days, although for some patients it can take up to a month for the full effects to be seen. As with all cosmetic procedures, the introduction of chemicals to the body and their results will vary between patients and is dependent largely on your lifestyle, medical history, and the area being treated.
For the first two weeks or so, it is important to avoid alcohol, aspirin, and anti-inflammatory medication since these substances can prolong the period of bruising you may experience from the Botox procedure.
