It would be nice if every pet that we owned came with a guidebook which would help us to give them exactly what they need. The unfortunate thing is, this is not true. At the same time, it also provides us with variety which is something that many of us really enjoy about our animals. That is why it is necessary for you to look at your animal and to determine exactly what they need as an individual in order to stay healthy. Here are some things to consider which will help you along the way.

As far as exercise is concerned, this is something that every animal is going to need in some way or another. For dogs, it may come in the form of a regular walk or perhaps a great game of fetch. Cats also can be exercised and it really depends upon your cat as to the type of exercise that they are going to receive. Not every dog and cat needs the same amount of exercise, however, and some don't really need all that much exercise at all. Keep in mind the breed of your animal along with exactly how much activity they have throughout the day. This will help you to gauge how much exercise you should give them.

One mistake that many dog owners make is taking their dogs along with them whenever they exercise. Dogs can exercise with short bursts of activity and they tend to run for a short amount of time but not for long periods of time. Of course, dogs can be trained in order to run long distances and they may be able to keep up with you for quite awhile. The faithfulness of a dog, however, will make them try to keep up with you whenever they are struggling to do so. Always keep this in mind so that you can make sure that you are not over exercising your dog while trying to be kind to them.

The types of foods and amount of food that you're going to feed your pet is also something that is dependent upon the type of pet that you have. Some dogs are bred to lay around quite a bit and although they do get some exercise during the day, you need to really be careful with how much you are feeding them. Other dogs, such as sporting dogs need to eat a lot whenever they are active in the field. This could require a lot of protein on their part in order to provide them with the calories and energy that they need.

There are many other things that you need to do with your animal which is dependent upon them as individuals. For example, some dogs and cats would benefit from the daily grooming while others are better off left alone for a while. The same is also true whenever it comes to how often they are going to get veterinary care and this can change over the course of an animal's life. Always make sure you watch your animal for signs that they need some assistance from you and then take action immediately to get that assistance to them.
