The term shabby chic refers to a style of furnishings or items that are soft, feminine and antique. Shabby chic décor usually consists of items that are chosen for their gentle, distressed feel or obvious signs of wear and tear that add to the chic feel of the item. While it's possible to find shabby chic items at places like garage sales, estate sales and flea markets, you can also create your own shabby chic items at home by using a couple of simple tricks. Glance over this list of shabby chic crafts to make and then start creating your own shabby chic items.

Shabby Chic Art - You can create your very own shabby chic art with just a few supplies and a little creativity. Shabby chic is all about beautiful pastel colors and creams, so find or buy a picture frame that is already cream or white, or that can be easily painted cream or white. Once you have your frame prepared, you'll need a piece of cardstock that is cut to fit in the frame. Next, glue or tack down pastel colored plain and patterned cloth and ribbon to the cardstock in a decorative way. You can find the cloth and ribbon around your own home, or at a local craft store. One idea would be to lay down one piece of cloth over the cardstock, cut a heart out of another type of cloth and place that in the middle of the piece, and then make a beautiful border around the heart with different colors and patterns of ribbon. Simply place the decorated cardstock in the cream or white frame and you'll have yourself shabby chic art.

Shabby chic pillow covers - Dress up your pillows and make them shabby chic in no time with just a few pieces of fabric and a sewing machine. Turn your decorative throw pillows into shabby chic pillows by either creating a new pillow cover from scratch, or purchasing a white or cream pillow cover that you can add decoration to. If you are creating your pillow cover from scratch, choose fabrics that are pastel, cream and white. A good idea would be to choose some fabrics with patterns, and others that are solid, but that all have similar colors so that they will match when displayed. Decorate a purchased cream or white pillow cover by sewing on strips of pastel colored fabric, a shabby chic design such as a patterned cloth heart, or any other design you choose. Place the new covers over your existing throw pillows for an updated, shabby chic look.

Shabby chic magnets - Make your fridge shabby chic with homemade shabby chic magnets. Your local craft store should have all of the supplies you need for this craft, including cutout wood shapes, magnetic strips, glue, fabric and ribbon. Opt for simple shapes, such as ovals and hearts, and choose fabrics that are pastel colored and lacy. To make your magnet, simply cut fabric and ribbon to glue onto the wooden shape in any design that you choose. Complete the magnet by attaching the magnetic strip to the back of the wooden shape and display the magnet on your fridge. Create a group of magnets to really make them stand out in your kitchen.
