Skin care starts with washing your face using a mild soap or cleansing agent on a regular basis every single day. If you have a mild acne condition, you can effectively treat it at home using a variety of remedies that are available quite easily. Many of the remedies recommended for acne are in fact available right at home. However, if the condition is more serious or if it does not respond to treatment at home, then you need to visit a dermatologist for medical help. They will be able to determine the exact cause of the problem and prescribe the proper treatment for your specific case.

One of the problems of treating acne from home is that a few other skin conditions have the same symptoms that acne does. Only a dermatologist would be able to differentiate between the two and prescribe the proper medication for your particular condition. So unless you seek medical advice, you may not be in a position to correctly diagnose the problem and follow the right treatment for the skin condition.

When you consult with your dermatologist, it is vital to inform them of any kind of allergies that you might have to certain medications. Since the treatment for acne would involve oral medication, you need to ensure that you are not allergic to any of the medicines prescribed for your treatment. If you take medicines that you are allergic to, it might further aggravate the acne and make it spread even more over the skin. Therefore, you need to inform the doctor about any form of allergies if you have any. Retinoic acid and benzoyl peroxide are the two main components that are present in most acne medications. These have a high percentage of anti-bacterial content and also posses rejuvenating properties that help your skin get clear and have a glowing look.

Not all acne treatments require medication however. There are many other forms of natural cures that provide good results and also do not have any side effects. Some of the natural remedies include cucumbers, peppermint and aloe vera. Natural cures might sometimes take a longer time to treat the condition. Since they work from the inside out, they might need anywhere from a month to a couple of months to work their wonders on the skin. You can talk to your dermatologist about a combination of medication as well as natural cures to enjoy the best of both worlds.
