An exotic car is classified as any car whose technological advancement in engine performance is substantially higher than modern day contemporary cars. Good examples of these types of cars are those cars designed by Ferrari, Bugatti, Rolls Royce, Lamborghini, Honda etc. characteristically, these cars not only perform (engine wise) way better than other normal day cars, they also cost a significant amount of money; amounts that mostly higher echelons of society can afford. Where you everyday car may cost between 23,000 to 50,000 dollars, and exotic car typically costs from 150,000 to 900,000 dollars.

Recognizing this disparity in those who can afford these cars and those who can not, exotic car rental services offer to lease out such cars at more affordable prices to whoever is willing to pay. In this article we introduce you to how the service works and a few differences between exotic car rental services and your typical rental service company.

As with all car rental service companies, you will need a valid drivers license and must meet a minimum age requirement. Exotic car rental services are mostly available in major cities around the world. For instance in the US, you can find an exotic car rental company in California, New York, Chicago among other areas and in Europe you can easily find one in London, Amsterdam, Rome, Geneva, Madrid among others. The reason for this is simply because there exists a greater demand for such cars in these cities (and states) than in others.

Most exotic car rentals require you to have a limited liability insurance of between 3000 and 7000 dollars. Many are will to offer you this insurance if you are not already covered up to their set amount. In comparison with regular car rentals, this insurance cover is only required to reach between 900 and 1600 dollars. The rates for a typical exotic car for a day run into the lower thousands, though this is still 100 times more expensive than a standard sedan. A Ferrari for example in Rome for a day rental can cost between 1200 to 3000 dollars depending on the make.

One similarity between the rental companies and your average rental company is that weekly rates are significantly cheaper than daily rates. Starting at 6000 dollars and above, many exotic car companies will offer you an exotic car for the entire week which could save your $$$. There are also other limitations you would not often expect in other standard car rental service contracts, for instance there are very steep penalties for exceeding the daily mileage limit, towing is not allowed, you are not permitted to take the car "off-road", and you most certainly are not allowed to smoke or drink alcohol in the car. Personally, given the cost of buying and maintaining these types of cars, I would enforce such rules as well.
