It is an extremely popular belief that the earth has only a few decades left, if we keep abusing her the way we have been. The earth, the mother of us all and we treat her with little to no respect at all. Known to some as "Gaea" the Greek name for a goddess that embodied Mother Nature. How have we ravaged and depleted her resources, fouled her air and in some cases destroyed habitats' that were billions of years in the making. The animals there have gone or are about to go extinct.

What will the future generations have to enjoy. Will there be polar bears or seals when you great grandchildren are adults. We have to make a stand to protect the land, sea and air from us. We are the earth's worst enemy. We use up the resources with reckless abandon. The almighty dollar blinds those who could really make a difference in this fight from doing what they know to be right.

Most think it is too expensive to live a green lifestyle but here we will list for five ways you can "GO GREEN" right now.

1. When asked paper or plastic at the check out, say neither. Take reusable, washable canvas bags to lug the groceries and other purchases home in. If you have paper or plastic bags somewhere in storage and who doesn't. Take them along and reuse them when shopping. Or use them as garbage can liners, for dirty diapers or for hauling library books and videos.

2. Make it a habit to buy organic whenever possible. Foods grown without the aid of pesticides and that are not genetically altered. It cost a bit more but the future of the world is at stake if there is no planet, those few cents aren't going to mean much to anyone.

3. Buy in bulk. This will cut down on the amount of paper being used in packaging single items. It also will mean fewer trips to the supermarket and save you money on gas as well. It also will mean less Co2 emissions, that is a great bonus.

4. There cannot be enough said about the benefits of recycling. You can recycle just about everything. Metals, plastics, paper and glass can all be recycled. Not only does this save on the need for raw materials and can put cash back in your pocket. Buy products made from recycled material.

5. If you are a smoker, quit. This is not only a healthier choice for you personally but it will also keep those harmful chemicals out of the air. The filters are not biodegradable and will be on the ground for years to come.

Now that we are enjoying spring, if you want to go green with your garden, consider getting a solar fountain or a rain barrel. We have only the one planet. Living like there is no tomorrow will make certain the thought becomes reality. Are we going to be the ones who uses up their resources so that going out into space to search for another source becomes all we can do. Let's start thinking about what is to come and make plans to conserve what we already have.

Amy C. invites you to browse delightful collection of solar fountains and rain barrels to create an ecological and sustainable garden decor.
