Botanists have finally perfected a project they had been working on for more than 20 years. Indoor dwarf sized citrus trees that actually produce edible fruits. Now you can grow miniature oranges, limes grapefruit, lemons, kumquats and mandarins can all be found in dwarf varieties. The best know variety of citrus ree is undoubtedly the Meyer lemon tree. They produce a sweet and seedless lemon with a taste like no other lemon in the world. The trees grow only to about four feet tall. They are perfect for apartment living.

You can grow other varieties of fruits indoors as well as citrus. Bananas, figs, pineapple and pomegranate trees have all been made in miniature. They have even made a hybrid that can produce several types of fruit from the same tree. Imagine from one tree you can get lemons, limes and oranges. The trees are totally adaptable and can be grown in any climate as long as there is sun or an adequate heat lamp. Read on to find five tips that the expert use to grow these lovely trees.

1.) Never use plain yard soil when potting or replenishing the soil in your container. A potting mixture that contains perlite works best for citrus trees. These can be found at most any garden/home center or online. The soil should not be packed impairing its ability to aerate the roots of the tree. Do not overfill the container leave enough room for water.

2.) Water once every 7-10 days. One way to keep from over watering is to let the topsoil become completely dry. They prefer a western or southern exposure for light.

3.) These trees like to be fed and using the proper formula will yield delicious fruits. The key ingredient in fertilizer for indoor citrus trees zinc, iron and magnesium. You can add these to your compost or buy a prepared fertilizer with these in the mix.

4.) Use a humidifier to keep the citrus trees in a weather condition that they enjoy. The air in most homes become dry and this will hinder the growth of a citrus tree. Mist regularly or use a humidifier to keep the levels of moisture high enough for the trees to thrive. Mist fountains are very effective to humidify indoors.

5.) Take the tree outside on warm sunny days. Do not however shock the little darling with full contact with direct sunlight. Gradually introduce th light change. Put them in a shaded area for the first few days then slowly put them in brighter light. Place an adorable garden statue next to your citrus tree to increase your gardens charm and beauty.

The trees will blossom and to encourage fruit growth you can be the "Bee" by taking a paintbrush and brushing lightly from blossom to blossom. This spreads the stamens from flower to flower.
