Meditation therapy for cancer is something that Oncologists and care-givers, do not mind trying on their patients, if it can help them feel better. This is because they are so used to seeing their parents suffering physically, as well as mentally, once they develop cancer that they feel it will probably help them cope with the problem, in a better manner.

Research proves that this therapy can help many cancer patients, to deal with the problem. Many types of meditation are available for them. "Transcendental meditation" is the most common type of all. The patients repeat a word, or phrase, which is known as "mantra," over and over again, either silently or loudly. The other type is, "Mindfulness meditation." The patient learns to observe thoughts, sounds and sensations that flit across their mind without passing judgment on any. One can also meditate by visualizing or during their walk.

There are several complimentary therapies, where this can be included and some of these are, massage therapy, hypnosis therapy, acupuncture, biofeedback therapy and so on.
It is important to remember that cancer cannot be cured by this form of therapy. It is only used in conjunction, with most cancer treatments, such as surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy and drug therapy.

Meditation is usually started in the same way. Chose a secluded place where you will not be distracted. Close your eyes and sit quietly, paying attention to your breathing and the sensations and sounds that surround you. Pay attention to the fleeting thoughts that cross your mind but do not hold on to any of them.

Now days, there is a lot of focus on reducing stress levels of the body and mind. We are aware that it also helps to reduce blood pressure, chronic pains, insomnia and anxiety. Therefore, it can help cancer patients to combat stress, pain, fear and anxiety. The quality of your life improves tremendously.

You find other therapies, such as biofeedback, massage, acupuncture, hypnosis therapy, etc. Use Meditation as a complimentary or alternative therapy. It can be used in combination with standard treatments but will not cure cancer by itself.

The advantages are that it can reduce stress levels, chronic pain, blood pressure and so many problems that have an impact on the body. Cancer patients benefit a great deal with meditation as they are able to cope with the disease and improve the quality of their life.
