When it comes to safely operating a piece of heavy machinery and properly maintaining it over hundreds of hours of constant wear, the continuous monitoring of its inner workings is of the utmost importance. Whether the machinery in question is a massive steam-turbine generator or simply the vehicle you use to deliver parts and supplies for your job, there are certain things that must be monitored in order to make sure it is being operated correctly and with minimal risk of malfunctioning.

One of the many things that should be watched at all times is the level of different fluids that are used within the machine, whether it happens to be oil, fuel, or some form of coolant. When a machine runs out of fuel it will stop working, disrupting its operation and productivity, which in most situations, will lead to a loss in revenue depending on what exactly the operation is. Likewise, a machine that is low on oil can't be lubricated properly, causing its parts to generate an excessive amount of friction, which will lead to wear and tear that will ultimately result in costly repairs.

Another serious piece of information that a machine worker might need is the pressure of a machine's internal fluids, because pressure can be a very dangerous thing, whether it's too high or too low. A large amount of pressure can cause moving parts to move too slow sluggishly or it can build up to the point that it bursts seals and gaskets and causes the fluids to leak out. Low pressure means that the machine isn't getting a decent supply of that fluid and is therefore not functioning as it should.

Temperature is another tremendously important piece of information that must be closely monitored throughout a machine's operation, because extreme temperatures can cause a great deal of problems for expensive equipment. When a machine is operating at too high a temperature, something is wrong with the machine, and as long as the operator is aware of the temperature, they can decide to shut the machine down and begin searching for whatever the problem might be.

Continuous monitoring of the inner workings and conditions of a machine tell us a lot of what we should know about how to operate and maintain that machine. Unless you are eager to operate a piece of machinery blindly and risk many likely incidents, you must stay up to date on what is happening with your machinery.
