The portable handheld games console industry has two main players, if you will. One is the range of DSi consoles from Nintendo, and the other is the Sony Playstation Portable, commonly known as the PSP. These devices have changed the way that games are played on the move, and indeed how many games are played. at all. There are new versions of the DSi available, and now comes news of the latest version of the PSP.

The newest incarnation of Sony's gaming portables is PSP Go, disclosed in the autumn of 2009 at the E3 show. The PSP Go features are significantly improved on older machines in the range, and come together to supply a fashionable and practical differentiation to the existing series. The initial, and likely most discussed, of the PSP Go features to vary from older models is the lack of the UMD drive. Prior versions have made use of this media conduit for both gaming and movies, but the PSP Go drops it completely. Instead, Sony intend for all software for the PSP Go to be transfered onto the 16 GB of built-in memory. This brave ploy will be aided by the PS store, which is compiling a massive catalogue of titles and films to be provided on the PSP Go features.

The previously discussed 16 GB of memory is flash based, and can be maxed to 32 GB with a memory stick micro. This PSP Go feature delivers a vast stock of memory so players won't be stumped for room. The screen is slightly reduced since the PSP 3000, but presents a much more focussed picture at 480x272 pixels. The compact screen layer is slid upwards to bare the buttons and d-pad, which also offers an analogue stick.

The PSP Go keeps all the basic features of its progenitor, including wi-fi accessibility and access to the PS store both on its own or via a PS3. Sony are endeavouring to make all previous UMDs available through the store, and game players can also find 'Minis', a new set of less expensive titles from fan-favourite ranges such as Megaman and Tetris.

So that's a brief intro to the PSP Go features. The console keeps the classic feel and features of the progenitor, whilst presenting a fresh new finish and leading edge media capacities. Sony have asserted that exclusively downloading titles is the dream for all games in the long run, and so the PSP Go is leading the way for a new venture into gaming legend.

The PSP Go looks set to re-establish the PSP as a driving force in the portable games industry. Stuffed with features and brilliant games titles, it is being eagerly anticipated by gamers all over the world. You can easily find more on the Sony PSP Go and other consoles, games and more online!
