Online entrepreneurs and those looking to develop a business designed to draw in leads will find no better way of achieving such a goal than by having a website. A significant number of companies have reduced advertising budgets through heading towards online promotional ventures. These online marketing strategies deliver much better results. There are various statistics designed to display the importance such a paradigm shift. Amazingly, statistics show 90% of all purchases derives from simple keyword searches. This startling information highlights the great necessity to launch a search engine (SEO) optimisation strategy designed solely for attracting the right traffic to a site. A solid SEO campaign will begin with a complete review of a particular website and its content. It will also include a complete evaluation of competitor sites. During this initial review period, website publishers seek the best keywords that people will enter into the search engines. This is done to locate the primary product or service you offer.

Revise your content

Consider this an in-depth review since the purpose will be to locate the actual terms people employ rather than the terms you think they should enter. During this early review period, take an objective look at the site content. Are your pages written in a manner that allows your company to appear experienced in the field? And, if the focus of your business is to offer a service, have you included your own set of articles on the site as a means to build up your professional reputation? If you're selling a product, are consumers allowed to write reviews?

Remember, this is only the first step to revising content within the process of an overall SEO strategy and it's designed with the purpose of drawing in more visitors. This important review process can reveal some surprises. For example, a number of companies might invest a great deal of money on an outsourced firm to craft and publish a website only to discover that a component as simple as meta tags was not coded properly.

Review your keywords

Another aspect to point out is that all pages on the site need to target unique keywords. For this reason repeating a company's name in the title page is not a good strategy. In a great many instances, the company's name can be found within its webpage address in order to provide the search engines with easy access so as to index it.

Don't forget that a great many people do not search for a company's name. Rather, they will enter keywords designed to detail a specific product or service. When a site is properly optimized in such a manner, it will usually display itself within the first page of displayed results.

What are meta tags?

Those that are new to the world of search engine optimisation should not be overwhelmed by the 'geek speak'. To view the meta tags found on a particular site, just click "View" in a web browser, then click "Source." This displays the source code on the webpage. The title tag in the source code will display the title page that can be found on a web browser. These keywords are created to help the search engines find your site.

The description will generally appear in the results page of the search engine in order to show what specific content can be found on an individual webpage. While a site owner may explore individual content on a webpage, it is wise to also view the source code and examine the meta tags. Most of the time, these items are properly optimized. The good news is this remains a great place to start to revise the site as part of an overall SEO program. Keep in mind, such a review can be very time consuming and the process that goes into it can be involved.

Here's a helpful checklist to consider when reviewing your web pages:

1. Are the meta tags clearly optimized?
2. Can a visitor find your contact information easily?
3. How long does it take for graphics to download?
4. Has the designer placed alt tags on the images?
5. Are you offering helpful and important content on all the pages?
6. Do visitors compliment the site's content as informative and helpful?
7. Does the site contain a great many Flash movies? Remember, search engines will not pick up on them easily and, additionally, they can take forever to load and run.
8. Is the history, mission statement, place of operations, and info on the members of the company present on the site?
9. Does the site offer a great deal of content about the professional field you are involved in?
10. Does the site include a blog to communicate with visitors while enhancing your search engine rankings?
