Your web content should entice your visitors to visit and perhaps buy your product, not put them to sleep.
It's true that fancy colours can make your website look attractive, but what's most important is that you have quality content. It's important for two reasons:
1. To call the visitor to action.
2. To get a high search engine ranking.
How is it that you can achieve quality web content on that satisfies both your reader and meets search engine optimisation requirements, too? Here are some things you can do to make sure you meet both goals.
Content should be short and sweet.
Don't try too hard or too obviously to "sell" a reader with a lot of "market speak." If you do a lot of promotional writing, you're going to turn off a lot of your readers and may in fact damage your own and your website's credibility.
Keep your text short and sweet, too. If it's too long, most readers are not going to want to wade through all of that and will leave. Most people read text on the web 25% slower than they do print material. Therefore, to make it the most effective, make it 50% shorter than you'd otherwise write it for print. Break it up into short paragraphs and even use short pages to make it more readable and user friendly.
Make sure readers can "scan" your content.
Most website readers don't read the text on your site. Instead, they scan it. In fact, one usability expert has stated that 79% of readers on the web tend to scan or skim text instead of reading a word for word. Therefore, highlight keywords, and use subheadings and bulleted lists that make it easy for readers to grasp central points quickly. In general, you've only got a few seconds to grab and hold a reader's attention, so make sure you can do that.
Your content should be enjoyable to read.
The most successful websites don't just have first-time customers; they have visitors who come back again and again. Therefore, make sure you give customers something to keep coming back for. Examples of things you might offer are informational articles or news that are also entertaining. To boost your visibility, send quality articles to article submission directories, which will make your website even more popular.
Your text and titles should contain keywords for search engine optimisation.
Search engines have to notice your website if you expect customers to find you. The higher your search engine ranks in search engine results, the more visibility and therefore the more visitors your website is going to receive. The keywords you use should be relevant to what you offer your customers. However, be sparing when you use them, because if you "keyword stuff" the text on your website, search engines will penalize or even ban you altogether.
Make sure the content on your website is accurate.
The facts you use on your website should be fully researched and as accurate as you know how to make them. If you're inconsistent or downright inaccurate, readers will question your website's integrity and ultimately may discount you as an expert. Because you want to look professional and to be viewed as such in your particular niche of expertise, this is something you want to avoid. And make sure the content is well written and spellchecked, too. Grammar or spelling mistakes will hurt your image as an expert, and it will make you look unprofessional, which translates negatively to your business, too.
Make sure your website content includes a call to action.
Finally, remember that you want your visitors to take some form of action that's going to result in some kind of benefit to you. It should persuade the reader to do something you want them to. For example, you may want them to subscribe to something, to keep reading, or to make a purchase.
Remember above all that "content is king," so your website should contain useful and informative information that's easy for the reader to understand and use. You should also write it with search engine optimization in mind. With these easy tips in mind, your website should be a popular place for clients to continue to come to again and again.
