There are many curtain types and designs that you can consider when thinking about furnishing your home. Interior design has always been popular and is something that is done more than once over the years, so curtains are a key and vital consideration when updating and refreshing your home.

Here's a quick guide to the styles of curtains that you can consider for your home and you can choose as part of your interior design.

Eyelet Curtains

This is an effective and simple design to achieve the minimalist look. Metal eyelets are sewn in at the top of the curtains where a narrow curtain pole is threaded through which gives natural folds in the fabric. This is ideal for medium weight fabric curtains and there are a wealth of eyelets to choose from.

Tab Top Curtains

A very popular type of curtain is the tab top headed curtain. This has loops of matching fabric stitched at the top of the curtains, sometimes with buttons at the foot of each tab. A curtain pole is threaded through the tabs. This type of curtain is ideal for medium to heavyweight curtains. You will need to consider the right width and weight of pole depending on the weight of the fabric.

Ring Top Curtains

You can also choose from curtains that have large curtain rings attached at the top where a curtain pole is slipped through. This design of curtain is good for medium to heavy weight curtains and can be used for pleated or plain curtains.

Pencil Pleat Curtains

This type of curtain is very common in homes and is easy to hang. A stiff curtain tape is attached to the top of the curtain with three rows in which to insert curtain hooks which are then attached to curtain tracks. The position of the curtain length can be adjusted according to which row the curtain is hung from. Ideal for lightweight fabric as well as medium fabric, pencil pleat curtains are a good choice for interior design and are quick to hang.

Box Pleat Curtains

Box pleated curtains are very sophisticated and give a tailored and structured look. This curtain design gives folds down the length of the curtain and is versatile because it can be used with either curtain tracks or curtain poles.

Pinch Pleat Curtains

This is a very decorative curtain design and is more gathered and structured at the top than the simple pencil pleat curtains. They have usually three stitched, gathered pleats in the curtain headings and look very tailored and smart.

Drape Curtains

Drape curtains can make a home look very sophisticated, classy and stylish and are ideal in homes with high ceilings and large windows. Fabric is draped over a rod at the top of the curtain in swags and the drapes can hang down on either side so it essentially frames the window. Drapes look best in very heavy, thick and luxurious fabric, however sheer and light fabrics can also be used.
