If you are looking for a new place to live, Essex could be your dream place to buy a new home. Essex is a large county with an extensive shoreline including places like Southend-on-Sea, Clacton-on-Sea and Brightlingsea, and also with very diverse towns and cities including Colchester, the oldest recorded town, Chelmsford, Brentwood, Billericay, Braintree and Maldon. The University of Essex is also located in Colchester.

For those who want to work as well as live in Essex, it also has a diverse industrial economy including major electronic companies, pharmaceutical companies and car manufacturing. A large proportion of the county, mainly the north part of Essex, has a large agricultural economy.

People are waking up to the fact that Essex is a great place to live and for this reason, there are many new developments in Essex that are springing up. With the diversity of social, leisure and community things to do for families and single people in the county, it is a great place to live as well as being easy to commute from into London. There's 350 miles of Essex coastline, so buyers can easily buy a new home in an Essex coastal town that has views of the sea, perhaps even buying a second property to rent out or visit for holidays.

For those that like nothing more than to walk, ramble and hike, Essex has some amazing rural countryside to take in. The Essex Way is an 82 mile walk from Epping Station to Harwich. There's a range of walks in both East and West Essex to suit every rambler, ranging from 5 to 13 miles. If you'd prefer to have greater access to the rural and country life and get away from it all, then there are developments of new houses in Essex that could give you the country lifestyle that you are seeking with easy and commutable distance to major towns for work or commuting into London. Epping Forest is Essex's renowned ancient forest and has areas of woods, heathland and ponds. Both Queen Elizabeth I and Henry VIII used to hunt in these ancient woods, and today it is used for a variety of leisure activities such as horse riding, orienteering, walking and mountain biking.

Those who prefer a more sedate lifestyle with an easy pace have the choice to move near to a number of historic towns in the area. Colchester, Maldon and Chelmsford, which is the Essex County Town, are all steeped in history attracting visitors and tourists and for would-be residents, have a range of new housing developments.

Essex is a great place to live in, work in and commute from, with a variety of areas to enjoy.
