There is a new advertising phenomenon sweeping the Internet, and it is, strangely enough, article marketing. While you may expect Internet marketing to be something much trendier than simple article writing, it is not. Websites are hungry for content, and a well-written article can reach an audience of millions in a matter of minutes, literally. Whether you are promoting a product, a website or a service, you can get the word out by simply writing an article about it. Then by allowing other sites to use your content for free, you set it up to go viral.

Here is how article marketing works. To begin you want to write an expert article on what you are trying to promote. After you have written your article, then you can upload it to any one of a number of free article directories. These directories let webmasters copy and reprint these articles for free as long as the resource box is included with it.

The resource box is a tiny section at the end of the piece that includes links to the author?s website, product or service. By including the links in every copy of the article that is copied for free, you are distributing your marketing information almost effortlessly. While you may pick up some extra traffic from the sites that are publishing your article, the real value of sharing your content for free comes in as all of those websites attract visitors who may now click on your link.

Generally any website that will want to reprint your article will be related to your topic or product in some way, so not only are you getting visitors, but you are getting screened and qualified visitors. Another huge advantage of having other sites reprint your article content is that each of these sites now links back to you, and this increased number of backlinks will very likely increase your search engine ranking.

Search engines view your site as important when many other related sites are linking to it, and important sites get displayed at the beginning of the search engine list where your site is much more likely to be clicked on by new visitors. So these backlinks are extremely valuable from a marketing standpoint, and every time your article is copied and posted, another backlink appears for your site.

Article Marketing is a Great Way to Build Presence

If you are trying to build a presence then article marketing is a great tool to use to spread your information across the Internet. If you want to build a reputation as an expert in a specific field, then you can get a lot of exposure really quickly by submitting an article on your specialty area. Make sure though, that anything that you submit is a quality piece of work, because it is linking back to you and your website.

If, after writing your article, you find that it is not getting the traffic that you were hoping that it would, then it may be because the quality of the article is not high enough. Many times poor quality content is contained in the article and that will keep anyone from using the article on their website, even though the content is free. Always make sure that your article is the highest quality possible before submitting it to for publication. Your article is a reflection on you, and if it sloppy and poorly written, people will naturally assume that your product or service is sub standard as well. If you want to build a brand that is synonymous with quality, then start with your article marketing.

While search engine optimization is important, remember that you are writing articles for people to read. Ideally you will be able to work in you SEO criteria without affecting the readability or content of your article. It really does not matter how much the automated spiders love your SEO content, you need real people to read and share your article for article marketing to work.

When you are article marketing you must remember to do four things.

- Make certain that your submission is interesting to the people you want to visit your website.

- Include well-written, good quality information in your article.

- While you can include SEO criteria, make sure that your article is readable and has value to real people.

- Give the article time to spread. Building backlinks and traffic both take time when you are article marketing.
