Most children simply love to create art projects. Painting, drawing and making crafts are not only fun activities for a child, but they can also be great ways for a child to practice coordination and small motor skills. As an added advantage, by learning to love art at an early age, your child will probably carry this appreciation for the arts throughout their entire life. If you'd like to help your child exercise his or her creative skills while also having a great time, here are two fun and easy art projects to try.
Hand Art
Hand art is hard to beat when you would like a fun, inexpensive, and fast craft project. All you really need is a pad of paper, a box of crayons, and your child's hand. You could start by tracing your hand on a piece of paper with a crayon. Then, use your creativity to transform your hand tracing into something entirely different. Although most people have traced their hand and transformed it into a turkey during the Thanksgiving season as a child, there are plenty of other creative and fun things you can do. For example, try drawing a face on the palm portion of the hand tracing, using the fingers as a spiked hairdo. You could also turn the paper upside-down after creating the hand tracing. In this position, the fingers could be an insect or space monsters legs. This can be an inexpensive and creative way to spend an afternoon. Be sure to display one or two of your child's favorite hand tracing creations in picture frames.
Paper Towel "Tie Dye"
If you have a roll of plain white paper towels, some water, a handful of rubber bands or "twisty-ties," some paper clips, a few small bowls and a box of watercolor paints, your child can create a myriad of tie dye artwork. Start by placing a vinyl tablecloth or plastic drop cloth on the table to protect the surface. Fold a plain white paper towel in a fan-fold fashion. Then, use the rubber bands, twisty-ties or paper clips to constrict the folds in certain areas. Pour a small amount of water into each of the small bowls. Then, using the watercolor paints and a brush, add a different color to each bowl of water. Dip different areas of the folded paper towel into each color. The paper towel will absorb the colored paint, while the rubber bands, twisty-ties and paper clips will keep certain areas of the towel white. Once you've added enough different colors, blot the folded towel gently with clean paper towels to remove excess moisture. Then, remove the rubber bands, twisty-ties and paper clips to reveal the tie dye work of art. Lay flat to dry. You can also cover the painted paper towel with a clean paper towel and iron it to remove the folds. This beautifully colored tie dye art looks great when displayed in picture frames, adding a lot of color and design to the room.
Now that you have a couple of new ideas that you can try, have some fun getting your child started. Don't forget to frame the final product so that it can be proudly displayed!
