If you are a new parent, chances are good that you have filled up dozens of picture frames with your new wee one's image already. But you're always on the lookout for even better baby photos that will document the journey of your baby in his precious developmental stages. Nonetheless, it can be invariably difficult and even a bit frustrating to capture baby's moments and milestones on film. As beautiful as baby may be, he often turns into a wriggling, wiggling mess when the camera comes out. The tips that follow will help you to take the best baby photos possible - photos that you will cherish for a lifetime:
• It's all about the lighting. Lighting really is an essential part of any photograph, and perhaps even more so when it comes to capturing baby's best features. The best possible lighting is natural sunlight, and this is particularly true if it is a bit overcast outside. If lighting is too bright, then your baby photos will have dark shadows. Inversely, dim lighting leads to inaccurate coloring and loss of detail. As a bonus when photographing baby, natural lighting doesn't require a flash. The flash on a camera sometimes startles or upsets babies.
• It takes two! An extra set of hands (grandma, the other parent, an older sibling) is always a good thing when photographing a baby. The helper can position the baby while you snap away.
• Bring in the clowns! Sing, make weird or silly noises, and play peek-a-boo with the baby. In other words, be a clown for a while and do what needs to be done to get baby giggling and smiling. In younger babies, this might not be possible, but in baby six months and older, it is totally doable.
• Get up close. Focus on the baby's face and get as close to baby as you can. Eliminating the background allows the picture to be about what's the most important - the baby itself.
• Get down on baby's level. Taking shots of baby while towering over him will never allow baby's true personality or good looks to show through appropriately. And getting down on baby's level allows baby to make eye contact with you (and the camera), for shots that are nothing short of amazing.
• Use digital for all it's worth. Back in the "old days" (not so long ago) a new mom would snap a few rolls of pictures of her new baby and cross her fingers until they were developed, hoping against hope for some good shots. With the age of digital cameras, there doesn't have to be a shot that isn't usable. Point and shoot until you find the ones that you like best. Take hundreds of pictures and eliminate all but a dozen. That's the beauty of digital!
Displaying the Best Baby Photos
Once you have the best baby photographs, you can then display them for the world to see. Many new moms love digital picture frames, because they can display a ton of shots without ever having to print any of them. Other moms prefer to print just the shots that they absolutely love, and place them in baby-themed picture frames or frames that go well with the décor in the room where the picture will be displayed. Either way, displaying your baby's picture shows your pride as a new mom.
Taking and displaying better baby photos can be challenging, but for your time and effort you are rewarded with beautiful photos that allow you to document and remember baby's precious moments.
