Babies grow up so fast, and you will never have the opportunity to go back and re-live those precious memories. That is why it is so important to do everything you can to preserve the memories of your baby's first year. Or, if someone in your family has recently had a baby, surprise them on the baby's first birthday with a compilation of photo memories. It will surely be a thoughtful gift that they will cherish always. Follow a few of these tips, and you'll be able to look back at baby's first year for decades to come.

Keep a Scrapbook

Scrapbooks are becoming one of the most popular ways of preserving memories. You can save photos, small mementos, and your thoughts about baby's first year in a scrapbook. If you do not want to cut up original photos, simply scan them or print extra copies of digital photos. Add plenty of details, such as journal entries, baby cards you received, and other pieces of memorabilia. If you make a scrapbook page that you are especially fond of, you can even remove it from the scrapbook and place it in a picture frame so that you can display it on your wall.

Calendar of Baby's First Year

Sometimes important memories and milestones never get recorded because they happen so fast. You will be more likely to write things down if you use a calendar instead of a journal or scrapbook for "spur of the moment" memories. You can use a calendar specially designed to record baby's first year. Or, simply make your own from a large wall calendar with plenty of space on each date to write notes. Then whenever something happens, such as the first time your baby rolls over or when they first smile, you can make a quick note on the calendar. You can always go back and write more about these events in a journal or scrapbook when you have time, but recording the event accurately is an invaluable part of the process.

Create a Memory Wall

It can be a lot of fun to devote one wall to baby photos. Whether you create a large collage of photos to display in a picture frame, or you frame numerous smaller photos, you will enjoy the memories every time you walk past. In fact, a photo wall often becomes a family tradition, with new photos replacing the older ones on an ongoing basis. It can be a great way to get maximum enjoyment out of your favorite family photos.

Digital Memories

If you are computer savvy, consider creating a digital scrapbook or digital photo presentation. There are software applications that allow you to import photographs and digital movie clips, combining them with music and special visual effects to create a movie which can then be copied to a DVD. This can be a great way to preserve baby memories, and can also be a thoughtful gift for grandparents and relatives that live far away. Digital photo compilations often turn out extremely well, and can become a treasured memento of your baby's first year.

So follow these tips and your memories of your baby's first year will never be forgotten.
