Decorating your child's bedroom can be a lot of fun. However, it is important to remember that most children really enjoy participating in the decorating process. By involving your child in the decorating decisions, they will have more ownership in the room. Many times this translates into more diligent efforts on their part to keep their rooms neat and attractive. After all, if they were part of the creation process, they will just naturally feel a greater sense of responsibility towards keeping things nice. Here are a few room decorating projects that are easy enough for children to help with.

Personalized Artwork

Chances are your child has created a lot of art "masterpieces" over the years. Too often children's school art projects and drawings end up in a drawer or box. Instead of storing them, use them to help decorate your child's room. Simply place a few pieces in 8x10 picture frames, and display on the walls. Your child will be so proud to see their artwork displayed prominently. You can make use of any kind of art that would look nice in the room including drawings, paintings, and maybe even a sketch or two. Swap the artwork out periodically so that you can display some new creations.

Handprint Art

Even the smallest child can help create handprint art. All you need is several colors of acrylic craft or wall paint, a few flat disposable aluminum pans, and a wall or piece of paper. Before beginning, protect the table, floor or work area with a plastic drop cloth. Then, pour a color of paint into the bottom of each disposable pan, and spread it around. Your child can place the palm of their hand in the paint and then use their paint-covered hand to make a print on the wall. To add a cute and decorative touch to the room, have your child create a handprint border around all the walls at chair rail height. Simply use a yardstick and pencil to measure and mark the wall at the proper height, drawing a light pencil line around the entire room perimeter. Then, your child can simply create paint handprints around the room using one or more colors. Or, have your child create handprint art on paper, then display his or her creations in picture frames on the wall. This can be a fun way to combine an art project with interesting room decor.

Coloring Book Art

Simple coloring book pages can also be used to create eye-catching art for your child's room. Choose a themed coloring book that matches the overall style of the room. Then, give your child the book and a big box of crayons. They will have a great time coloring pictures that can then be used as wall art. Simply place a few of their creations in picture frames, and hang on the wall. The room will look great, and your child will experience the pride of having contributed to the room's decor. Once you have a few pages framed, you can continue to update them from time to time with new colored pages, to keep the overall look fresh.

Your kids will love these fun and easy projects. They will allow your kids to express their creativity, and your kids will enjoy the finished project for years to come.
