If you are like most folks, the majority of the shots that you capture with your digital camera will never be printed out. Those that are printed usually end up in a photo album, tucked away in a closet. But there are those rare photos that turn out so good that we just have to share them with others. They deserve to be placed in a picture frame and displayed on the corner of your desk, on your mantel, or some other prominent place in your home or office where you can brag about how beautiful your daughter is, how funny your dog is, or how big your newborn's smile was when you took a particular photograph.

And even though it is the image itself that will ultimately connect with whoever views your photo, the picture frame will influence how well the photo is received and how memorable the photo is in the mind of whoever is looking at it. That makes choosing the right frame for your picture an important part of displaying your favorite shots. The tips that follow will help you pick out a frame that accentuates the picture that it holds.

• Choose a frame that matches well with the room in which it will be placed. Coordinating your frame to match your room is a smart move from a decorative standpoint. The photograph might be totally awesome, but one of the reasons that you want to display it is to enhance a particular space. A matching picture frame can help you to accomplish that goal.

• The frame should complement the photograph. The frame for your photo has a lot to do with how the photo is presented. The frame colors should complement some colors in the photograph. For example, you wouldn't want to frame a picture of your niece in red and green Christmas pageant dress in a frame that is pink, right?

• Less can actually be more when it comes to picture frames. You don't want the frame to overwhelm the picture. Many picture frames today may be ten times larger than the picture that they hold. Is that a good way to display your photo? Interior decorators say no. When in doubt, choose a conservative picture frame that complements your space while allowing the true beauty of the photo to shine through uninterrupted.

• Buy an important picture frame for an important event. Never skimp on the frame that you will put important photos (or documents) in. For example, your wedding photo or your hard-earned college degree deserve a well-made picture frame that is as prestigious as the photo or document inside and that immortalize a moment in your life forever.

• Allow your personality to shine through. No matter what type of picture frame you might think you should use for a particular picture, the ultimate person that you're trying to please is yourself. If you're happy, you will cherish the shot, and the frame, for many years to come.

From color coordination to different sizes, there are many different things that will help you to select just the right frame to show off your picture perfectly.
