Who will you trust for those picture frame quality shots of your wedding? You've dreamed of this moment your entire life. You, the bride, dressed like a princess in a fairy tale, marrying your Prince Charming while the world looks on, each moment of it caught on film. Wedding photos are among the most treasured in any family, passed down through the generations and displayed in picture frames for decades upon mantels around the world. That makes hiring the right wedding photographer not just a good idea, but a necessity. After all, the wedding will be over and done within a matter of hours. Without a good photographer, your memories may not be preserved the way that you had intended.
Fortunately, there are many top notch wedding photographers out there. And hiring one for your big day is as simple as doing some investigative research beforehand. These tips will ensure that the picture frame on your mantel will hold a wedding shot that you love:
• Go with a photographer that friends, family, or co-workers have used before. Ask for referrals from those that are closest to you. If you have a relative or friend who was recently wed, ask to see their photographs and find out if they were satisfied with the photographer that they used.
• Check any wedding photographer that you are considering hiring for your wedding through the Better Business Bureau. If the photographer is a sham, chances are good that the BBB will have had a complaint on them in the past.
• Interview more than one wedding photographer. This will give you a feel for the type of photographer that you are dealing with, the type of service the photographer offers, the quality of work that he can provide, and how much they charge for their services. A good photographer will have a portfolio of their work, both in an actual portfolio, and usually, online, on their professional website.
• Always find out if the photographer that you are interviewing is the actual photographer that will be photographing your special day. Meeting the actual photographer is important in making your hiring decision. You must be able to build a rapport with the photographer in order for him to understand what you are looking for in your photos. If you are not comfortable with the photographer, chances are good that your discomfort will come through in the photos they shoot.
• Ask not only the photographer's prices, but ask the photographer to reveal any other fees that you might be charged. For instance, if the photographer works with an assistant, is the cost of hiring the assistant included in the fee?
• When interviewing photographers, ask for references, and then actually call the references that they give you and find out what his previous clients think about his work. Never hire a wedding photographer that has no references.
• Find out what the time frame for proof deliver or other products ordered is. Can you keep the negatives and proofs?
• Is the photo package that you choose customized or fixed? How many photos do you get for your money? What about albums, enlargements, and reprints? Will any of your prints be framed, and is the cost of the picture frame included?
• Is there a deposit required to retain the services of the photographer?
No matter which photographer you decide to hire for your wedding, be sure to get everything that the two of you discuss in written form. A contract is your only way of holding the photographer accountable for their services.
So keep these tips in mind and you can go looking for a wedding photographer right away.
