If you're like most families, you probably have dozens of photos sitting around the house, stored in albums, boxes and drawers. Even if you have your photos safely stored, you probably don't look at them and enjoy them as much as you should. Instead of simply storing these precious photos out of sight, why not use them to create an attractive photo memory wall in your home? If you've always admired photo memory walls in the homes of others, here are a few tips you can use to create one of your own.

Choosing the Wall

Choosing the wall that will display your photo collection to its best advantage is an important part of the process. In most cases, you'll want to choose a wall that is large enough to provide plenty of photo display space. Choosing a prominent location can also be a great way to ensure that your photos get the attention that they deserve. A family room wall, hallway wall, or even a living room wall can all be great locations. Try to avoid walls that get a good deal of sunlight, as this could cause your photos to fade.

Selecting Your Photos

Because families usually have such large photo collections, it can sometimes be difficult to choose the photos they wish to display. To find good photo wall candidates, it can be helpful to start by looking through albums and all your school picture frames throughout your home. In fact, even if you have one or more photos already framed, you might want to consider adding them to the wall. In most cases, if a photo was special enough to frame in the first place, you can be assured that it will be a good addition to your photo wall. If any of the photos you select are fragile or vintage, you might want to scan and print copies of them to display on the wall. After all, you certainly wouldn't want an irreplaceable original to become damaged.

Selecting Your Picture Frames

Choosing just the right picture frame to display your photos to their best advantage is also an important part of the process. If you prefer a more formal look, choosing frames that match or have visual similarities can work well. However, if you are striving for a more casual and eclectic look, you can feel free to use whatever frames appeal to you most.

Creating the Wall Arrangement

It can sometimes be a bit difficult to decide upon the perfect wall arrangement. In order to avoid making unnecessary nail holes in the wall, try creating your arrangement on the floor first. Simply measure off a section of the floor to the overall dimensions of your wall, using masking or painters tape. Then, arrange the framed photos in the space until you decide on the perfect arrangement. Or, make the process even easier by cutting and taping wrapping paper together to form the size and shape of your wall. Arrange the pictures on the paper, tracing around the frames with a pencil. You can then simply tape the paper on the wall to use as a guide. Tap the nails into the wall directly through the paper. Then, simply remove the paper so you can hang the photos in the correct positions on the first try.

Now that you know how to create a great wall of photos, you can get started right away!
