Even if you only have a small and ordinary bathroom in your home, there are plenty of things you can do to make it more luxurious and spa-like. There's nothing more relaxing and comforting than treating yourself to a long soak in a warm bath, or pampering yourself with a relaxing hot shower. If you'd like to transform your plain ho-hum bathroom into a luxurious and beautiful room that is reminiscent of a spa, here are some tips that you can use for inspiration:

Add a Fresh Coat of Paint

Painting your bathroom is a great way to give it a fresh new appearance. Choose light wall shades such as taupe, light sage green or beautiful sky blue to give the room the relaxing and serene look of a spa. A white ceiling will not only make the room look taller, but it will also make the bathroom more cheerful due to additional reflected light. Once you've repainted the walls, hang one or two lovely art prints in picture frames designed to complement your new color scheme.

Replace Your Bathroom Linens

Nothing says luxurious comfort like soft and fluffy new bath towels. If you want to give your bathroom a new look on a budget, try replacing your bathroom linens, shower curtain, and bath mats. To give the room a relaxing spa-like look, choose towels and accessories in white, off-white, light neutrals or pastel shades. Although dark colors certainly have their place in the bathroom, you'll create an airier and more relaxing look by focusing on lighter colors. Choose soft, plush and luxurious bath mats to add comfort and warmth to the floor.

Replace Outdated Bathroom Fixtures

You might be surprised to find that you can replace your outdated bathroom fixtures for less money than you thought. For example, if you simply focus on changing the sink and tub faucets as well as the shower head, your old bathtub, shower and sink will have a fresh and updated look. A rain style shower head or a water massage shower head can both be good choices to add to the spa-like atmosphere. If possible, choose a shower head and fixtures that conserve water, so that your new spa bathroom will be eco-friendly as well as luxurious.

Add the Finishing Touches

It's sometimes the subtle decorating touches that really make a room. If you are striving for a spa-style bathroom, you'll want to keep things simple and avoid visual clutter. A few scented candles, art prints displayed in picture frames, or a beautiful live plant or vase of fresh flowers might be all you really need. When choosing a candle or potpourri scent, focus on clean and unobtrusive fragrances such as fresh linen or ocean breeze, which will add a relaxing and natural touch. You can also use a wicker basket on the vanity counter to hold bath oils, bath salts, body lotions, and other personal products to accentuate the spa-like environment. Then, turn down the lights, light a few candles and enjoy your beautiful new spa bathroom.
