Ah, vacation time! In a weary economy, many families are struggling to afford a "real" vacation - which makes the trips that they do get to take momentous events that must be preserved for the magical times they are! The tips that follow will help you to keep the memory of your once-in-a-lifetime vacation fresh on your mind when you want to take a stroll down memory lane to relive the fun and togetherness you shared as a family.

• Make a scrapbook. Scrapbooking can be loads of fun, and compiling a vacation scrapbook is a great way for you to preserve the memories of a vacation. Include items like photographs, ticket stubs, receipts, flyers, hotel matchbooks and other little items that you gathered on the trip. Use fun vacation cut-outs related to the type of vacation, such as beach themed cut-outs for your trip to Orlando, Florida, nautical cut-outs for your cruise to Alaska, or cut-outs of the Eiffel Tower and other landmarks for a visit to France.

• Make a digital album. Showcasing your family trip on a digital album not only gives you a fun way to show off your pictures, but it also preserves the memories that you have in a format that will allow you to reprint your photos if the originals become damaged or misplaced.

• Framing. Buy some fun 5x7 picture frames and frame the best shots from your trip. You might also choose a collage picture frame to frame several shots at once.

• Create a shadow box. The supplies to make a shadow box are very inexpensive and can be found in the craft section of any big box retailer. Add items to the shadow box that make you recall the trip you took, such as a small jar of sand, some seashells, and a photograph or two from your beach trip. This is also a great project to get the kids involved with; allow them to create their own special shadow box that they can display in their room.

• Keep a travel journal. This is a fun activity to do while on vacation. Purchase an unlined journal and write in it every day as you are traveling, leaving a blank space after each day's entries for photographs. Take related shots to back up the things that you are writing about; you can print these pictures and glue them to the blank pages when you return home. You might also pick up postcards from the places you visit and insert them in the journal as well.

• Buy a digital picture frame. When you return from your trip, your friends and family will enjoy viewing your pictures with a digital picture frame. This can be a desktop picture frame that you simply set on your desk like a traditional picture frame - only that plays a slideshow of the trip photos, or a keychain picture frame that you can carry with you on your regular key ring.

Whether you're into fun arts and crafts, or prefer the ease and simplicity of store-bought photo displays, there are many ways to preserve your favorite family vacation memories.
