If you are looking for an easy way to make some inexpensive gifts, you might not need to look any further than your own kitchen. There are many items you can make in the kitchen, ranging from food items to bath and body products. Many people find that giving gifts is more enjoyable and personal when they make their own handcrafted items. Although there are plenty of complicated craft items that you can make to give as gifts, crafts created in the kitchen are usually fast, simple and even enjoyable to make. Here are a few easy craft ideas you can easily make in the kitchen the next time you need a quick gift.
Fragrant Bath Salts
For those who enjoy a luxurious and relaxing soak in the tub, fragrant bath salts can be the perfect gift. Simply mix Epson salts in a mixing bowl along with a few drops of your favorite scent of essential oil. You can also add a drop or two of food coloring if you'd like to add a bit of color. Mix thoroughly until the fragrance and coloring is blended evenly throughout the Epson salts. You can then fill small glass jars or bottles with the finished product, tie a bow around the container, and give as a gift.
Homemade Baking Mixes
Almost everyone loves using baking mixes, since they can really cut down on the time and effort needed to make tasty treats. However, store-bought baking mixes can be expensive and are often unhealthy. Instead, create your own homemade baking mixes to give as gifts. Almost any baking recipe can be prepared as a mix. Simply mix together all the dry ingredients and place in a glass canning jar or other decorative container. You can increase the beauty of your mix by layering colorful ingredients. For example, if you are making a jar of chocolate chip cookie mix, add alternating layers of the flour mixture and chocolate chips. Make sure to give a copy of the recipe along with the baking mix. Photos of the finished product, perhaps displayed in cute mini picture frames, can also add a nice touch to your gift.
Kitchen Art
Creating kitchen art is a great way to transform everyday kitchen supplies into whimsical art. There is almost no end to the decorative items you can create, using nothing more than standard food supplies. For example, create a mosaic design by gluing different sizes and shapes of macaroni products to a piece of cardboard. Or, create a kind of culinary "sand art" by layering different colored beans in a decorative glass jar. By gluing different colored beans to a piece of wood, you can create a kitchen trivet with a natural mosaic design. Or, use a brush and white glue to draw designs on a piece of poster board. Sprinkle salt, cinnamon or other dry ingredients onto the wet glue and shake off the excess. The end result will be some beautiful and creative pieces of art suitable for displaying in simple brown picture frames.
