Selecting a magnetic picture frame may seem like a simple thing to do, but it may be confusing to find exactly what you want. Confusing because there are two different types of magnetic picture frames and they are called the exact same thing.

"Traditional" Magnetic Picture Frames

The traditional magnetic picture frame is fairly common and has been around for a while. These photo frames use magnets on the back of the frame so they will stick to any metal object, like refrigerators or metal filing cabinets. Magnetic frames are made from various materials, such as acrylic, plastic or paper. They are called various names, like acrylic magnetic frame, magnetic refrigerator frame or clear magnetic picture frame.

Many people prefer this type of magnetic picture frame because it is simple, inexpensive and can attach to any metallic object. It is also popular because it can easily be replaced if broken or lost.

The clear version of this type magnetic frame is often found in offices, houses, and cars. Filing cabinets and metal desks are a perfect place to display a magnetic frame. Long-haul truck drivers use magnetic picture frames on the dashboards of their trucks while on long road trips. Magnetic picture frames are very convenient at home where they are used to hang children's school papers or artwork. School lockers have also become a popular place to use magnetic frames.

"Modern" Magnetic Photo Frames

What is referred to as the "modern" magnetic photo frame is the other type of magnetic frame. This magnetic frame is not designed to attach to a metal surface. Instead, this type magnetic frame uses magnets within the frame to hold the picture. It can be displayed on any type surface. Most of these type frames are placed on a flat surface, but some are designed to hang on a wall.

The modern magnetic frame gives the photo an artsy, unique look. The photo appears to be floating within the frame. This magnetic frame is also referred to as a floating frame.

This version of the magnetic frame is stylish and fits into any modern décor. It is available in different shapes and sizes and can be made of glass, acrylic or metal. Modern magnetic picture frames range in price from average to moderate depending upon the material used.

Another reason these magnetic picture frames are so popular is because they are versatile. By using photos of different sizes, you can create an artistic and creative collage frame with the appeal of a modern style appearance. With magnets holding the pictures in place, the pictures can be easily changed or rearranged to give the frame display a different look.

Knowing the difference between a traditional magnetic picture frame and a modern magnetic picture frame will ease your confusion when searching for the perfect magnetic frame for your home or office.
