When you use and display precious photographs, such as family photographs, in your home, fond memories are given new life. A beautiful photograph that is thoughtfully framed in just the right picture frame, creatively and properly hung, and viewed in the right light can be a welcoming and decorative addition to your home. Hanging photographs on your walls allows you to reflect who you are and tell the story of your life.
Make all who enter your home feel warm and welcome when you decorate with creatively styled and displayed photographs full of memories and love. Because we live in a visual society, take your treasured memories and display them on your walls instead of photo albums or scrapbooks. They'll not only beautify your home, but they will allow your family to enjoy them daily.
In this article, you will find some ideas on ways to decorate with family photographs, be it classical, traditional, or eclectic styles… Why not make your favorite treasured family photograph the center of your room: a focal point. Enlarge photographs to, say, 30" x 40", place them in lovely large picture frames and hang them in a prominent place, such as above a fireplace. When you or your guests enter the room, all eyes immediately are drawn to the photograph, just as if it were a piece of art.
Treasured photographs aren't always pictures of family members; they can be images taken by different family members during different experiences, like travels to different places. These photographs can be enlarged, dramatically framed and hung in a dining room.
Take cherished framed photographs and display them in a unique way that draws attention to them, such as on a simple plate rack hung on the wall.
Hallways have been a traditional place to hang family photographs. Here, you can display photographs of generations. Use non-traditional matting, such as with a square opening and off-center. A simple picture frame for each one allows the pictures themselves to tell a story. Adding dramatic lighting gives intensity to the subject matter.
It's easy to forget that pictures can be hung anywhere and not just on a wall. Use ribbon, string, or even chain to hang a picture frame from a peg rack in an entryway, a coat rack, pegged wainscoting, or the front of a closet door.
Displaying family photographs is an art form in and of itself, but it's not as difficult as it may seem. Try taking several different photographs and framing them differently, then hang one or two of them on a wall and place the rest on a shelf. The picture frames on the shelf can overlap and you can add related mementos to the shelf to create an engaging grouping.
The kitchen always ends up being the gathering place when guests are at your house, right? Why not use it to display loved family photographs? Fill nooks and crannies with pictures of family gatherings, outings with friends, or whatever event you want to remember; it'll make the kitchen area even more loved as the heart of the home.
Give some of these suggestions a try and make your home warm and full of memories for you, your family, friends, and loved ones to share and treasure.
