Inviting friends over to spend the night can be a lot of fun for children of all ages. The next time your child invites a friend over, why not make it a special occasion and plan a sleepover party? It often does not take a lot of time, effort of expense to transform a simple sleepover into a fun and exciting party event. Here are a few tips you can use to add a bit of pizzazz the next time your child invites a friend, or a few friends, to stay over.
Fun Party Foods
Great snacks always seem to be an essential component of the traditional sleepover party. It is hard to go wrong with the time-tested choices of popcorn, pizza and cookies. However, you can add a bit more life to the party by having the kids participate in the snack making process. Make a large batch of pizza dough in advance, stock up on pizza sauce, pepperoni and other pizza fixings, and let each child assemble their own custom-built pie. Or, make a big batch of cookie dough and let everyone take part in the cookie-making process. Be sure to take plenty of photos of their cooking efforts, since displaying a couple of these "action shots" in unique picture frames on your kitchen walls can add a charming and decorative touch.
Choosing a Party Theme
If you think that party themes are just for birthday parties, think again. You can add a lot of fun and excitement to a child's sleepover party simply by incorporating a theme. For example, a movie party theme can be a lot of fun. Decide on the movie in advance and send out invitations that look like movie tickets. Serve popcorn in paper popcorn bags, have a big bowl of "movie candy" on hand, and arrange folding chairs in front of the television to simulate a movie theater. Decorate the room with movie posters displayed on the walls. If you cannot find posters for the movie you have chosen, simply make a few of your own. A spa party can be a lot of fun for teenage girls, or arrange a football party on an evening when a big game is being aired. You will undoubtedly find that just a bit of pre-planning can really add to the enjoyment of any sleepover party.
Planning Your Sleeping Accommodations
If you are inviting just one child over for the night, you probably will not have too much trouble devising comfortable sleeping arrangements. However, if you are planning a sleepover party for multiple children, you might have to get a bit more creative. Asking each child to bring a sleeping bag can be a good approach. Or, place chair and sofa cushions directly on the floor to create impromptu beds. Air mattresses, futons and even a mattress from an unused guest bedroom can all be used to add extra sleeping space. In most cases, you will want to find a way for everyone to sleep in the same room, as this is usually more fun for the kids. If you have a digital camera, take photos during the party. Then print them, place in pretty small picture frames, and give one to each child as a fun memento of the party.
