How much success did the stimulus plan that promised to create jobs for us in this economic downturn bring? Well, as you would probably know by now, not much. If we are going to wait further for promises that jobs will be created, we are in for a disappointment. Instead of hanging on to hope, why not take action to create our own destiny. Let's do something to change our economic situation.

There are less jobs available today because factories have moved to countries with low labor costs and corporations have engaged call-centers in cheaper countries to handle their support system. Unless we want to move to these countries to work in their factories and call-centers, we need to be creative and smart. Jobs, even if they come around, will not be permanent. The answer to this is to create a business. Own the business instead of just owning a job.

There are so many kinds of businesses you might say, so which one is the ideal business to get into? Firstly, don't be fooled by the word business. Some appears to be businesses, but in essence they are really jobs. Take for example a convenience store franchise. If you have to mend the store or the cash register for much of the day, it becomes a job. But if you employ people to do them while you free yourself and use your time to set up other stores and hire people, it becomes a business. A business is an entity that brings in money whether you are at the office or not.

So What Business Should You Do?

My advice is to follow your passion. If you are passionate about something, then the whole plan becomes achievable. There is nothing wrong with setting up convenience stores and hiring people to run them if that is your passion, but I would recommend something that doesn't require much cash investment, logistics and time. The problem is that most businesses that we know today require a big cash investment, and this is something that most of us do not have in the current economic climate.

Network Marketing

The two most important words for successful people are leverage and network. Billionaires earn their money through leveraging on their network. People who work in a job don't have networks to leverage on. In a network marketing business, you have these two words to work with. Firstly you built a network, which everyone can do easily, and after that you leverage on everyone's effort. Network marketing is a great home business which you can built with very little investment and a great support team that is willing to train you with little or no cost at all.

Why is network marketing an ideal business to get into? Well, unlike other businesses, you don't have to handle these headaches :

• Rent
• Employees
• Payroll taxes
• Equipment

In a network marketing business, you only represent your products or services. In most cases, your whole business can fit into your briefcase. Your other tools are your skills of presentation which you can acquire from the trainings. This is the typical network marketing start up model.

What Are The Setbacks of Network Marketing ?

The setback is that the good name of the industry had been tarnished by people who were irresponsible in their business dealings and as a result, people associate network marketing with scams, which is of course not true. That however can be overcome with the right training. Training is a source for growth in the network marketing industry. When a networking team gets together for training, it sets the momentum for growth at a very fast pace, much like a bullet train. A bullet train is powered by engines on all its cars unlike a regular train that is being pulled by a single locomotive. It is empowerment on all fronts. The success rate in a network marketing business is higher than that of a brick and mortar business.

Understanding The Business

Research the network marketing industry and find a business that you are passionate about. And let me assure you that there are plenty to choose from - from health supplements to cosmetics, and from legal aid to cookware. Look at their business models, support and compensation plans. Ask yourself how many hours you can invest in this business. If you are currently at a job, you can invest maybe 2 hours a day in training and making presentations to people who may be interested to network with you. Weekends are ideal for home meetings and attending seminars.

Remember that at the start of this article, I was talking about the economic downturn and the lack of job opportunities and the empty promises about stimulating the job industry. Successful people don't wait for the economy to turn around because it might just not. Take your own action. Create your own future with a network marketing business.
