There are network marketing companies that are scams, and there are legitimate network marketing companies that just have poor track record, for some reasons. How do you differentiate between the different network marketing companies and how do you choose one that is right for you? Below are 10 tips to assist you to select the right network marketing company.

1. Has the network marketing company been in existence for the last 5 years? Choose a network marketing company that has a proven track record. Many businesses fail after 5 years. If the network marketing company has survived the initial 5 years, look at its products and services and whether there is a hungry market for them.

2. Does the network marketing company have cash? Network marketing companies need cash to grow the business, to build infrastructure, to invest in training and in new technology. The only way for you to have an idea how healthy the company is is to look at its financial report. It is safer to choose a publicly traded company because it has to disclose its financial situation to the SEC every 90 days, as compared to a private company.

3. Are the products or services exclusive to this network marketing company? It is wise to market and represent products that have little or no competition. There are many network marketers who are not doing very well because their products have so many less expensive alternatives on the supermarket shelves.

4. Is there a market for the product or service? Don't end up like distributors who stock their garage with their own products because nobody else wants to purchase those products at that price, when there are less expensive ones elsewhere. There must be a need for the products and a hungry market to fill it. The products have to add value to people's lives.

5. Is the product or service permanent or just a passing trend? When you venture into network marketing, you are investing your time and effort into building a long term residual income. Choose products and services that people are going to use for the long term as compared to short term products.

6. Can you make money immediately? The network marketing company that you chose must pay you promptly. You need the money to-reinvest in yourself through training and expansion. You also need the money to pay for travel and phone bills in the course of your work.

7. Is the network marketing company embracing technology? Technology greatly assists you in your marketing efforts with all the tools that it provides. It also processes data of your performance and earnings. Don't choose a company that does not take advantage of technology to streamline its business.

8. Is your sponsor committed to your success? The network marketing business is a people-helping-people business and the person who brought you into the company must be committed to train you and see that you succeed. Your sponsor must be your coach and motivator and not just someone who recruits you for the sake of earning a percentage from your sales and then abandons you.

9. Can the business be done part-time without the need to leave your current job? Choose a company that has very good automated systems which allow you to do the core work in your limited time. Because you need to survive on your current job, the technology that the company embraces must assist you to conduct your network marketing business at a short time. Take leverage on that and build a residual income with it which would lead to you not having the need to carry on with your current job.

10. Will you enjoy the business? The business that you chose should have a happy environment with people that care about each other's success. If you enjoy the culture in the company, the products and the people you work with, it would naturally lead to your success in building a long term residual income.

So these are the 10 criteria you should look into when researching on network marketing companies. There will be hard work in the beginning as you go through the learning curve, but as you progress into the journey, you will find that is one of the best decisions that you have ever made.
