As a child, I remember that my mother called a woman’s hair her “crowning glory.” She was proud of her hair – it was thick and beautiful. As a reminder of her youth, she kept a thick braid of her hair that was at least three inches around. Unfortunately, I did not inherit her “crowning glory” genes. I guess I can thank my bald father for the less than bountiful amount of hair on my head.

Mother was right; a woman with abundant beautiful hair appears more feminine and sexy. However, millions of women, me included, must deal with thin, thinning, and limp, baby fine hair. At age 18, a hair stylist took notice of the thinness of the hair on top of my head. Guess what – over time, it did not become thicker!

What to do? For me, and for most women with thin hair, helpful advice and good solutions are hard to come by. That means you work with what you have and make the most of what you have. You pick up little tips here and there and keep hoping to find the “magic product” that will make your hair look thick, full and sexy.

Recently I discovered “Holly Houff’s Fine Hair Secrets.” As you might imagine, Holly belongs to the “Fine Hair Sorority” – that sisterhood of women who are “follicularly challenged.” Her thin, fine hair motivated her to search for help and solutions that would help make her hair fuller and thicker.

Holly did her research, and then some. She recommends only what she tried and found useful or helpful, and it has helped me enormously. For example, I learned that not all hair dryers are created equal. When it comes to fine hair, some dryers work better than others. I learned about unique cuts and how to find a truly creative stylist. With compelling TV ads showing young women with mounds of hair, it’s often impossible to separate fact from fiction Holly saved me a ton of time and money by trying a lot of hair care products and rating them.

One thing I found useful is color hair spray. It can be a bit messy so I suggest you find a place in the house to use it where you will not mind seeing some color residue. For all its faults, if you get the right color and learn how to apply it (yes, there is a learning curve!) it camouflages very well. If I had a choice to wear either a wig or apply color spray, I'd use color spray. it's a lot more comfortable.

While fine hair is difficult for women to live with, if you keep searching and trying different things, you will find something that will help you feel better about your hair.
