2011 is seeing some exciting advancements in the field of wind generation. New models utilizing the latetest technology are rolling off the shelves from reputable companies. And the great thing about the new models is that they're cheaper than ever. The average 400 watt wind generator can be bought for right arounf $500 in most cases. That's pretty incredible, especially considering the advanced materials that most of these new models are employing, things like carbon fiber, thermoplastics, and high grade aluminum casting. Things like that are making it increasingly difficult to justify building your own wind generator. The common person doesn't really have access to advanced materials like carbon fiber. So most homemade wind generators are built strictly from aluminum and steel. This makes them obviously somewhat less efficient and generally louder than a professionally made wind generator.

Of course, the real value in building your own wind generator is the knowledge and experience you gain from building a green generator. Do it yourself models generally aren't very efficient in actually generating electricity, and are usually loud and overall difficult to justify. Though many claim that building your own wind generator is very cost effective, at the end of the day, you're only going to save a few hundred dollars and have a machine that's of poorer quality than a professionally produced model. Most do it yourself wind generators basically amount to science experiements. It's just hard to justify all the time, effort, and money it takes to build a wind generator at home, when you can buy a professional quality model for less than $500. It's like car mechanics. I always change my own brakes. It doesn't take long and the mechanic charges me 5 times what it costs me to do it myself. For oil changes however, I never do it myself because of the hassle to get rid of the old oil and the fact that the mechanic does it for only about twice the price that I could do it myself. Sometimes it's good to do things yourself and sometimes it's just not worth the hassle.

So what are some good companies? There are a lot of brand new models rolling off the shelves in 2011, and depending on your needs, there are about 3 that are worthy of mention. There are 3 brand new models of for 2011 that I'm really excited about. The main reason why I'm excited about these three models is because they give a buyer a lot of options to suit their needs. The first one worth mentioning, the Gudcraft WG400 is great for persons in low wind conditions. It has 6 blades and begins turning and generating electricity at just 5 miles per hour of wind. The next generator worthy of mention is the Sunforce 44444. This is a new model for 2011 and utilizes the latest technology and materials. It's super lightweight and sleek. This particular model has gotten mixed reviews, but overall, it seems to be a solid design. The last model of generator worthy of mention is the Windmax HY400. This model is also great for low wind conditions and has a very solid designs. It has 5 blades and starts generating electricity at fairly low wind conditions.

12 volt wind generator technology is becoming more and more common as the technology and price grow in viability. The newest technology for 2011 is really top notch. If you're looking for a specific model, check out these 12 volt wind generator reviews.
