Awhile back I was doing a lot of research on boosting the metabolism and finding natural compounds that energize the body. Though green tea products and extracts were generally dominant in the way of metabolism boosting, one natural compound I found surprised me, chia seed oil. Chia seed is something that almost everyone has heard of due to the popular chia pets that came out years ago, where chia seeds were spread out onto clay surfaces and would sprout when watered. It's funny because the same property that allows chia seeds to grow on clay surfaces without any dirt or soil is the same property that causes it to give the body a boost in endurance.

Chia seeds have a very strange and special property that allows them to absorb many times their own weight in water. If you were to leave chia seeds in a cup of water for an hour or so, you'd come back to find that the chia seeds had expanded and grown very slippery and that a gel film had formed all over them in the water. This chia gel has a number of unique benefits and properties that makes it unlike any other seed. Chia gel is very slow digesting and stays in the stomach for long periods of time. This gives a person the benefit of having steady energy for a long period of time. Not only that, but a person feels full for a longer period of time. So not only does a person benefit from an extended boost of energy, they also benefit from not having to eat as much food.

Chia seed oil itself benefits the metabolism in a variety of ways. The nutrient combination found in chia seed oil comes together in such a way as to provide very good fuel for exercise and endurance sports. We don't have time to get into all the different nutrients in the oil, but suffice it to say that the nutritional properties of chia seeds have been noticed and utilized for many thousands of years. Aztec and Mayan warriors would routinely eat chia seeds and ground up chia meal, and would always make sure to eat chia seeds before going into battle. They relied on the extended energy that came from chia seeds to give them strength over a long period of time. Now in the modern day, chia seed is primarily used for the seed oil that's extracted from it. Chia seed oil is a very nutritious oil moderately good for cooking and great for the diets of active persons. If you're someone who's on the go and enjoys and active lifestyle, you ought to think about using an oil that will work for you and not against you. So many oils today are unhealthy, especially in restaurants. Restaurants generally use the cheapest oils to prepare their foods, oils that have poor nutritional value and cause elevated cholesterol and risk of heart disease. That's why I almost always cook for myself, and grab oils like chia seed oil that not only are healthy, but provide good fuel for my active lifestyle.

Chia seed benefits the whole body. With so many unhealthy oils and fats out there, it's awesome being able to find one whose nutrition actually benefits your body. On top of that, the properties that give chia seed endurance boosting properties are just icing on the cake.
