Chlorella is a single celled blue/green algae with numerous health benefits. It's full of beneficial nutrients like chlorophyll and trace minerals and vitamins. In fact, chlorella has more chlorphyll in it than any other edible source on the planet. But chlorella comes with a downfall. It has a very thick and impenetrable cell wall that keeps its nutrients locked away and inexessible to the human digestive system. That's why, in order for chlorella to really be useful to the human body, the cell wall needs to be broken in some fashion to allow the digestive tract to gain access to the inner nutrients. But this can cause a few problems. So finding the right kind of chlorella is key. If you just buy the cheapest brand of chlorella out there, you might end up with a chlorella product with a poor manufacturing process that doesn't do a good job of breaking down the outer cell wall.

It's difficult to process chlorella algae in such a way that the vital nutrients are kept intact. For one thing, it's difficult to destroy a part of the cell without damaging the rest of the cell. Chlorella's nutrients wouldn't be very valuable to the human body if, in the process of cracking or destroying the cell wall, the rest of the nutrients were either contaminated or destroyed along with the cell wall. So finding a manufacturing process that's both powerful enough to destroy the outer cell wall, yet gentle enough to keep the rest of the nutrients intact is what you're really after. Many manufacturers use sound vibrations to accomplish this task. Sometimes referred to as ultrasonic, they'll target the chlorella with a specific sound frequency which is able to crack the cell wall, but doesn't damage the other nutrients present within the cell. There are other methods that companies use as well which accomplish the task of destroying the cell wall of the chlorella algae, so do a little bit of research on this before choosing which brand you're going to buy.

But what about the other dangers inherent to chlorella processing. It's a general rule that foods closest to their natural state are generally safer and more useful to the body. The more something is processed, the less useful it generally is to the body. With chlorella, because of the harvesting and manufacturing process, it's easy for contaminents to sneak into the chlorella mixture, especially after the cell has been made vulnerable by cracking the cell wall. In the past, chlorella has been known to become contaminated through the different stages of its processing. That's why, when buying a brand of chlorella, you need to make sure that you're buying a brand with high standards for quality control that have been thoroughly tested and proven safe. There are a lot of bulk chlorella powders for sale out there and you need to be careful about what you're buying. Not only is it easy for fillers to be added to chlorella powder, the quality control standards for some brands is not as high as with other brands. So be careful.
