I've been doing a lot of research into the metabolism and into many of the different fat burning diets that promise quick fat burning. Lots of people are getting wise to the fact that many of the pills you could take for weight loss are ultimately going to do you more harm than good, and so, they're instead turning toward specialized diets that give you a very strict and specific regimen of food to eat over a certain period of time and promise fast weight loss.
If this is you then there are a few points of concern that you need to be aware of. First, if you consider yourself overweight, then chances are you've been living on the Standard American Diet (SAD) for quite a long period of time. This means that you need to be somewhat careful. Not only is the Standard American Diet full of unhealthy fats and oils, it also has a strong lack of vitamins, minerals, and other essential nutrients.
This can cause a large problem if you all of a sudden go on a strict diet of very specific foods. What can end up happening is that because certain diets have you eat a very narrow variety of foods, you can very easily end up with a vitamin or mineral deficiency of some kind. Because most people are already borderline deficient in vitamins and minerals, going on a strict diet that promises fast weight loss can cause many unwanted side effects.
One of the symptoms of vitamin deficiency is chronic fatigue. Generally your metabolism will slow, which is one of your body's defenses against vitamin and mineral deficiency. It tries to conserve what it has. So if you pair a vitamin deficiency induced slower metabolism with a strict weight loss diet, a lot of side effects are sure to ensue, the least of which can actually be longterm weight gain. You've heard many testimonials of people who gained all the weight back that they lost plus more. That's because your body doesn't like to be shocked into weight loss.
Another point of concern with fast weight loss diets is that they generally do nothing to change your habits. If you go on a strict diet for a short period of time, what are you supposed to do once you get off of the diet? I'm absolutely positive that these diets all promote healthy eating habits once the diet is all said and done in order to keep off the weight that you've lost. So why not try changing your eating habits in the first place?
Eating fresh, raw, organic fruits and vegetables throughout the day does wonders for your diet. Not only are you filling your diet with the vital vitamins and minerals that your body needs in order to function, but you're also filling your stomach with low calorie foods. Did you know that some vegetables are even said to contain negative calories? That's because they actually take more calories to process than they yield to the body. Eating these as a snack throughout your day instead of the bag of potato chips can show you a pretty incredible difference in your battle against weight loss.
