Olive oil is one of the world's most beneficial oils. Olive oil benefits have been known for centuries, and spanning many cultures. Olive trees have been a prized plant in the Mediterranean Basin for thousands of years. Early historical documents, even the Bible, make mention of using olive oil, not only in food, but also in beauty and therapeutic treatments as well. In modern culture, creams and lotions have replaced topical oils to a large extent, mostly due to the fact that oils leave the skin looking shiny and well oily. But there's nothing like olive oil applied topically to bring back moisture and vibrant health to the hair and the skin.
Olive oil has many skin benefits when used as a topical oil. As a humectant, olive oil naturally moisturizes the skin and draws water to the applied area. Though many moisturizing lotions and creams boast the same benefits, olive oil is all natural, and doesn't have many of the extra ingredients like mineral oil that often make lotions and creams harmful to the skin in the long run. Not only that, but in being an all natural oil, olive oil is very nutritious. Olive oil is rich in healthy Omega fats that penetrate into the skin and deliver key nutrients to skin cells. This is something that lotions and creams can't usually boast. Olive oil contains vitamin E, which has powerful antioxidant properties, and also polyphenols, which have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties as well.
Olive oil also have benefits to the hair. More and more, hair care products like conditioners and scalp lotions are starting to add olive oil into their formulas. Olive oil is great because it nourishes both the hair as well as the scalp. Since the scalp is skin, olive oil brings great benefits by moisturizing it and delivering key nutrients to the follicles and skin cells. The scalp can easily get dried out, especially for people who wash their hair often and undergo hair treatments. Having an oil like olive oil to not only nourish and protect the scalp but also feeds the hair as well is a great ally. With olive oil, you can simultaneously nourish the scalp and the hair at the same time.
But probably the best part about olive oil is that it can also be used in cooking. How amazing is it to have a product that you can not only use in cooking, but can also use as a topical oil for the skin and the hair as well? In these tough economic times, it's great to find products that are both versatile and inexpensive. Because of the fact that olive oil is used so widely in the world, the cost is very cheap when compared with other skin care and hair care products. And the fact that you can use it in cooking as well makes it an amazingly versatile oil. It's no wonder that olive oil has been so popular for so many thousands of years and is gaining popularity in the modern age.
