In my continued study of sunlight and its benefits, I've been doing a lot of reading about vitamin d deficiency symptoms in adults. Sunlight, as most know, is one of the main contributing factors to vitamin d production in the human body, and an underexposure to sunlight, as well as other factors can cause vitamin d deficiency in adults.
Vitamin d is known as the "sunshine vitamin" but sunlight isn't the only contributing factor to vitamin d production. Milk is another main contributing factor to vitamin d. That's the reason why most gallons of milk have the label "Vitamin D Milk" stamped proudly on the front. Those who suffer from lactose allergies and who also live in areas of low sun exposure are particularly at risk to vitamin d deficiency. The symptoms of vitamin d deficiency are somewhat different in adults than in children, or are at least more difficult to identify because of some of the similarities of symptoms that can occur in children from other things. One particular example of a vitamin d deficiency is bone pain and also muscle weakness. This can cause a difficulty in identifying it in children because bone pain is often associated with growth spirts in children and muscle weakness can often be similar to the general fatigue associated with growth spirts in children.
In most cases, vitamin d deficiency may be battled simply by getting more exposure to direct sunlight. This isn't always possible though, so in many cases, other steps may need to be taken. Often, with vegetarian diets, vitamin d deficiency can slowly grow and build up in the body, and often supplements are needed in order to correct the problem. The three biggest risk factors associated with vitamin d deficiency are: Persons Underexposed to Sunlight, Persons Unable to Process Milk Products, and Persons on Strict Vegetarian Diets.
If you are a person in one or more of these categories and you can correct the problem, do so immediately. If you are unable or unwilling to correct the situation, you may have to supplement your diet with vitamin d products. Vitamin d deficiency, when carried to its extreme, can lead to a wide variety of dangerous health conditions such as rickets disease and osteomalacia.
Vitamin deficiency in general, is one of the root cause of much of the symptoms of fatigue, weakness, and general lack of health experienced throughout the world. Having lived in the third world for an extended period of time, I had personal experience with a wide variety of vitamin deficiency in both myself and friends. It's no secret that in the modern world, though types of foods and choices for diets abound, in many cases, the quality of the food being produced has greatly diminished. Because of very specific fertilization methods only replenishing certain substances in farm soil, many of the vegetables and meats produced in corporate farms have seen a great decline in vitamin and mineral quantity. A person may think they're eating a balanced diet, but if they're not careful, many of the essential vitamins and minerals the body needs may be absent from the foods we regularly eat.
