We all know the term "overnight sensation" gets a lot of overuse in movie land. Many actors and actresses feel that this term detracts from the many years of hard work that they have put into their acting careers before they finally hit it big. However, in the instance of Robert Pattinson and Twilight, an overnight money making phenomena is the most apt description for both the star and the movie.

The Twilight movie has been a huge box office sensation, earning more than $200 million in its first few weeks of release in northern America. In fact, the movie is so popular it has knocked the James Bond "Quantum of Solace" from its coveted number one spot.

Who is Robert Pattinson?

He is a British born actor, model and musician. In fact his gorgeous good looks and his music can both be admired in the Twilight movie. Yep, not only is the dude drop dead gorgeous (well he is playing the vampire Edward Cullen), but he can actually sing as well. His original song "Never Think" is featured on the movie's soundtrack.

Other Robert Pattinson movies include Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, where Pattinson played Cedric Diggory, and Little Ashes, yet to be released, in which Pattinson stars as famous artist Salvador Dali.

After Pattinson's performance as Cedric Diggory in 2005, Times Online awarded the actor with the title "British Star of Tomorrow". (Well it is only 2008, and some would say that in a vampire calendar 3 years is only a mere tiny window of time.)

Prior to the success of Twilight, Rob Pattinson had been seriously thinking about chucking the acting gig in. However, the thought that he may have left it too late to embark on university study made him realise that he should start taking acting more seriously.

The Twilight success.

For many Twilight readers, seeing Robert Pattinson in Twilight, was Edward Cullen come to life. The way that Stephenie Meyer describes the 17 year old vampire Edward in the book passes more than a fleeting resemblance to the finished product of Pattinson. My daughter and myself were both astonished when we first saw the trailers and posters for Twilight as to how perfect the casting was with Robert as Edward.

As we all now know, it is only a matter of time before we see the second installment of the Twilight series, New Moon. Production has been approved and it is now full steam ahead, as Edward is frozen at the age of 17. Filming on the remaining 3 stories needs to be finished before he gets too old. Robert Pattinson as the drop dead gorgeous Edward Cullen will keep us mere warm blooded mortals coming back for more.

Critic Billy Baker supplies greater insight about Twilight and Robert Pattinson inclusive of a video on this page entitled Robert Pattinson Star Of Twilight.
