If you have been online or in a home based business for anytime you know the importance of having your own website. And you know that the definition of website has changed over time. Having a presence on the internet is not just about static websites anymore; there is an easier way with blogs.

Blogs have become the staple for new home business owners. They are easy to setup and get operational fast, and there is no need for costly web designers. But which blogging site is best and why and how do you make money using a blog?

Not all blogging sites are good for advertising, so below I have listed a short description of three available today so you can make the right decision on which is best for your business opportunity.

Blogger.com is the most well known and the one many new home based business owners start with because of its simplicity. Once you have signed up for an account they provide you with a tutorial that walks you through a step-by-step setup. They have a limited amount of templates to choose from, so finding one to find your niche could be a challenge.

Since Blogger is owned by Google it is easy to setup AdSense ads which can provide income for your blog. This is easily accomplished as well with a step-by-step setup. If you are new to blogging or web design this is a great place to start.

WordPress.com. These sites are bit more complicated to set if you are just getting started. Wordpress does a great of walking you through the install; however it is not as simple as the Blogger setup. A nice feature with WordPress is it ability to export the blog to a website, which is nice for marketers that want one single location for product promotion.

Since more people use WordPress, there are tons of templates to chose from anywhere on the net. They are also designed with widgets for advertising. You can not only advertise AdSense you can create Amazon or any affiliate widgets for additional revenue.

For those of you more advanced bloggers, WordPress also offers easy ways to add video's podcasting, pictures and much more.

TypePad.com offers a free site however to receive the best of what they have to offer you will want to take advantage of there paid blogging service. This site is used by many large organization to host there corporate weblogs.

Since this is a service there is little setup you need to do, most is done for you, all you need to do is enter your business opportunity or niche information.

People like this product because it is based on applications. If you want to ad things like AdSense or other affiliate sales links you simply add the product API and place it where you want on the page. You don't need to know much about how it works and their support is top notch.

There are many other blogging sites to choose from but most are fee based in order to get what the above free sites offer.

If you're looking to start a blog for your home based business using one of the free sites is your best bet. Once you become familiar with blogging and how to capitalize on the site, you can always upgrade.
