While the advantages of a clean colon are well known, some people are reluctant to take the necessary steps to make it happen. They have many questions but few answers. What exactly do you need for a safe and effective home enema? What are the proper procedures? And where do you get all the equipment, supplies and information you need?

Embarrassment prevents many people from pursuing the relief and health benefits of a home enema. The thought of shopping at several stores, and asking sales clerks for help, may be daunting for those who are not anxious to discuss enemas with strangers. If they did ask, they might discover that the clerks are also inexperienced, and cannot provide authoritative assistance.

Fortunately, there are experts available who can offer everything that even a first-timer needs. And consulting with these experts will not cause the slightest hint of embarrassment.

What is an enema?

A home enema introduces a liquid solution into the colon via the anus. The solution flushes the colon to remove obstructions or deposits. The process of getting the liquid in, and then dealing with what comes out, requires some preparation, but this is not beyond the abilities of most people to handle easily and effectively. The help of a medical professional usually is not required unless the overall health of the recipient is already compromised.

The cited benefits of an enema can include the restoration of regular bowel movements, relief from irritable bowel syndrome, removal of toxins from organs such as the liver, improvement of sexual vitality, a reduction in the frequency and severity of common ailments such as colds, and relief from psychological conditions such as depression.

Those who don't want all the apparatus for a full enema may choose to use prepackaged alternatives like "Fleet" saline laxative enemas, or "Enemeez" mini enemas. Similarly, an enema syringe or bulb can be used to deliver a smaller, pre-measured amount of solution directly. However, for complete colon cleansing, the full enema "system" is required.

The basic components include:

Enema solution

Receptacle for enema solution

Colon tube with fitting

Nozzle

Accessories

Common liquid solutions used for enemas include soapy water, coffee, Epsom salts dissolved in water, milk and water, glycerin with mineral oil and water, and vinegar and water.

The solution receptacle usually takes one of two forms: an enema bag or a bucket. The solution will flow from this receptacle into the other components. One end of the tubing, which may include a valve, is fitted to the enema bag or placed inside the bucket. The other end is attached to the nozzle.

The nozzle, available in many diameters and lengths, fits into the anus. The solution flows by gravity through the apparatus into the colon. Accessories that may be useful include lubricant, latex gloves, a vinyl protective bedsheet, and cleanup supplies.

So where do you go for all these parts and pieces? As usual, the internet offers a convenient, cost-effective way to get everything needed. Not only can you obtain all the right equipment and supplies online, but they also are often bundled so that everything fits together properly.
