The jack press is a tool that is used to remove excess water from plant clippings in order to make a paste, and is great for herbal remedies and treatments, which are becoming increasingly more mainstream. When it comes to creating your own herbal remedies you will generally need to acquire a large amount of the herb in question, preferably freshly trimmed. Once this task has been completed there are many different ways to prepare most herbs for consumption or topical usage.
You can eat or apply some herbs raw, without any sort of treatment at all, and freshly trimmed, washed herbs are often most potent form of the plant. It is important that if you are selecting this method, you make sure that is safe to utilize the specific species in a completely raw state. Generally the biggest issue with this is that it is simply not palatable, many herbs are not tasty without extra preparation.
The next thing that you can do is to dehydrate the herbs, which can then be added to food dishes or in some instances consumed through inhalation. In order to do this you will want to either air dry or dehydrate the fresh clippings. Before you begin either type of drying process it is vital that you make sure all insects, dirt, and dead leaves have been removed from the plant. Air drying is best used on plants that have very high moisture content, since you want some of the essential oil to remain behind.
Essential oil extraction is another commonly used process for natural medicinal treatment. The oil is typically extracted from the plants using a mix of extremely high grain alcohol, primarily as a cutting agent. The process involves keeping the herbs and the alcohol together for long periods of time, straining, and some light boiling. It is possible to make essential oils without alcohol, but often it is more complicated and time consuming.
The final way to prepare herbal remedies is by using a jack press to make what is called a jack puck. The jack press is a special tool used to remove excess moisture from the plant, leaving behind only a thick paste, in this stage the product is often referred to as a jack puck because of its resemblance to hockey puck. The remains can be easily placed in pills or consumed, though it is important to remember that this is a highly concentrated and potent version of the treatment.
