Hemorrhoid PPH is short for Procedure for Prolapse and Hemorrhoids. This is a technique for removal of advanced stage hemorrhoids (grade 2,3,4). In this surgical procedure a circular staples are used to reduce the prolapse, of the tissue by literally repositioning, or lifting up, of the rectal canal tissue causing a reduced blood flow to the hemorrhoids. The result is they eventually shrink and die.

In comparison to the conventional surgical procedure, hemorrhoidectomy, PPH is much less intrusive; it is associated with less pain and faster recovery normally between 2 to 8 weeks.

Although, Hemorrhoid PPH is effective and comparatively less painful there are some serious potential Risks and Complications to be considered prior to undergoing the surgery:

1. Potential Inflammation and Infection of the rectal wall - this may be caused by muscle tissue being dragged into the device used to install the circular staples

2. Potential damaging of the internal muscle of the sphincter - this would result in long or short-term dysfunction and cause severe pain or involuntary urination or defecation

On the other hand it can provide permanent relief from hemorrhoid suffering.

If you are considering going ahead with Hemorrhoid PPH here are some questions to ask your doctor:

- Has he performed this procedure before?

- How many patients has he treated with it?

- Will you be required to spend time in the hospital and how long?

- Will you need to undertake any long term work changes and physical activities?

- Why is he recommending this particular procedure over the others?

- How long should you expect the recovery process to take?

- How long the procedure would lasts for?

- How soon before you can go back to "normal" diet and activity?

- What are all of the potential risks and complications of Hemorrhoid PPH surgery?

Let me be straight with you. I have read and researched quite a lot of people's experiences with the Hemorrhoid PPH surgery. What I found is that most likely you will be in more pain than you would imagine. Some people had excruciating pain for up to 4 even 6 weeks. One common advice: make sure you have tons of mineral oil, Miralax and other products to keep the stools soft and a bucket load of pain medication. You simply do not want to run out of any of those until you fully recover.

Ok, let me stop here as I do not want to plant any extra fears in your mind. In any case if you must have it done the doctors say everything will be just fine.

In conclusion: We all know that with any surgical procedure there are risks as well as benefits that we need to consider and in this case is no different. However, my personal philosophy is that no matter what, undergoing any kind of surgical procedure is the last option I will ever consider. First, I will exhaust every possible natural way or remedy and if all options have failed to produce sustainable result will I consider a surgery.
