Do Children With Autism Experience Bullying?

Do you have a child with autism and you have experienced there may be bullying going on in the classroom of your child, neighborhood, with other peers or even within family members that have affected your child?

Bullying is a serious problem and it can create more severe problems later in life, if it is not corrected. Have you felt because your child has the disorder of autism, your child might be bullied without you knowing it or being aware of it?

It is an uncomfortable feeling to know or experience that a child has been bullied who has autism, especially when it is your own child.

The signs or clues to watch for according to the definition of bullying, which could also be classified as abuse, are:

**getting certain people to gang up on your child

**making fun of your child, because he or she is different

**Shoving, pushing, punching, pulling hair, taking caps or other items of clothes and hiding them, throwing them or destroying them

**Teasing your child, by calling your child names, which are intimidating and cause low self-esteem

Bullying, is basically, when your child with the disorder of autism has experienced hurts that come from threats, scares, that someone else has done on purpose, by knowing that person is unable to defend himself or herself.

This is repeated over and over again. As a parent or caregiver, if, you know your child with autism has experienced being bullied, you want to be wise, find out who it is that is doing the bullying and go to the source of who is in charge of the person(s) who is doing the bullying. You may want to go to the parent or the school counselor and have a discussion and confront the issue.

Take steps to have the bullying stopped and let it be known, you will not experience or tolerate this kind of treatment for your child,. It must be halted and stopped immediately. It is imperative to take a stand and stop the bullying your child with autism, has experienced.

You must stop bullying now, that comes from other people, to eliminate the negative results which bullying carries and displays.

Teach your child the best you know how, to express the truth to you, if you suspect there is bullying going on. Let your child know, that you can be trusted with the information and you will take action and investigate the issue, that the there will be results to stop the bullying or find out who is doing it.

Let your child know who has autism and is has experienced the bullying, that he or she need not feel guilty, you love them unconditionally and are there to help your child.
