One of the most important relationship topics that I see overlooked all the time is affection! The dictionary definition is:

af-fec-tion (noun) - fond attachment, devotion, or love.

STOP and think about that for just a minute. What comes to mind when you think of showing affection? Is it a kiss on the cheek? A quick hug to celebrate good news? Well I'm here to tell you that affection MUST run so much deeper in your relationship, or else you will never truly have a real connection with your spouse.

So let's break this down, one definition at a time:

fond (adjective) - excessively tender or overindulgent; doting

at-tach-ment (noun) - a feeling that binds one to a person; devotion

de-vo-tion (noun) - profound dedication

love (noun) - a profoundly tender, passionate affection for another person

So take a serious look at how intertwined these definitions are... it's no coincidence, trust me. Lack of affection is a fatal mistake made in so many marriages... but it doesn't have to happen! It's so easy to turn this aspect of your marriage around, but no one does it!

What's it going to take?

Just close your eyes for a minute and picture the marriage of your dreams. If your spouse knew every single stinkin' thing about you, what you were thinking, what you were expecting, what you wanted them to do, say or touch... How would that be? What would that be like for you? For them? For your marriage?

Well do you realize that it's so within reach that you barely need to get on your tippy toes to hold it? YES, it's that easy... there are 5 simple steps that I will walk you through to save your marriage through mastering true affection. But first, let's take a look at the definition of passion:

pas-sion (noun) - an instance or experience of strong love or sexual desire

Okay so the word "strong" jumps right out at me. We're not talking wimpy pecks on the cheek here folks, we're talking STRONG connection. Here are 5 simple steps that you can follow to master the art of affection:

1). Tender hugs and kisses upon every departure and arrival (when you leave for work, when you get home from running errands, etc).

2). Tell your spouse one thing you love about them every day!

3). Cuddle each other... whether it's in bed, during a brief encounter while passing in the hallway or in the kitchen while dinner is cooking.

4). Stay connected and honest... if there is friction, act lovingly and sensitively to dissolve it the second you identify it.

5). Acknowledge your spouse for all the big things AND small things they do!

So there you have it. I guarantee you, just by following these 5 simple steps, you will see an amazing shift in not only your relationship with your spouse but your marriage as a whole!
