A new baby is a blessing, but can be overwhelming, especially to first time parents. The responsibility to keep the baby safe and healthy can be very daunting. When the baby is a newborn, keeping him safe and happy is an all day every day job, but is relatively simple. Because newborns can't walk or crawl, it is easy to keep them in one place. Constant time and attention are required, but as long as the baby's basic needs are met, he will be safe and happy. Newborn babies need love, warmth, and nourishment to be content and satisfied. Of course this means constant diaper changes, rocking, and middle of the night feedings are required from the new mom and dad.

Once the baby gets past the newborn stage and is able to interact more fully with the world and those around him, it becomes more fun for the parents. There is still a lot of work involved, but now there is more reward for the parents. The baby will begin to smile and laugh and react to stimuli. Now the parents need to do more to keep the baby occupied and entertained. At this stage, a play pad is a great source of entertainment for a baby. A play pad is a colorful mat with many toys and textures to keep baby stimulated and entertained. A play mat is a great source of early learning and stimulation for the baby while giving the parents a chance for a break.

Keeping a baby entertained while in the car can sometimes be a challenge because it is hard to pay attention to a baby and drive at the same time. First of all, the baby should be safely secured in the proper car seat before the car is put into motion. A great option for keeping a baby happy in the car is toys that hang from the car seat within the baby's reach and line of sight. Also, classical music or children's songs can help keep baby happy while in the car.

Once the baby reaches the point of rolling and crawling, it can become a challenge to keep baby entertained and safe. Babies that are mobile have to be supervised constantly to ensure their safety. A great tool for parents that need to get some things done is the baby swing. A baby swing keeps the baby comfortable and safe while occupying him with rhythmic motion and music. A baby jumper is another way to keep a mobile baby safe in one place and entertained. This apparatus usually attaches to a doorway and holds the baby's weight while he jumps happily up and down. This is a great device because it keeps the baby entertained and builds muscle to help the baby learn to walk.

There are many ways to keep a baby entertained from the newborn stage through toddlerhood. Babies love to do things over and over which can sometimes be frustrating for parents. However, repetition is how babies develop motor function and learn new skills. The key factors to keeping a baby safe and happy are lots of attention and of course an unlimited supply of love.
