Criminal background checks are often done in pre- employment screenings and other similar situations. It is a proven method of legally obtaining accurate information on a person and their history. While some people feel as though these background checks an unnecessary waste of time and money, a great deal of importance lies in performing criminal background checks. There are even many places that offer free criminal history checks.

It is very important for employers to conduct criminal background checks and since there are so many no cost criminal background checks available there is no real reason not to perform one if you are suspicious of hiring someone. This is one of the most proven ways that they can ensure they are hiring an honest and safe employee. It is important that an employer does not mistakenly hire an individual with a sorted criminal background that could potentially harm their company or fellow employees. While there is no way to ensure an individual won't ever commita criminal act, employers can ensure they are not hiring someone who has committed a crime in the past.

There are actually two types of criminal background checks, one for the state the person lives in as well as a federal criminal check. A majority of employers will perform a standard criminal background check for the state they live in. While these can be helpful, they will only dictate if the person in question has committed a crime in that state, this will not indicate if they have committeda federal crime. A federal background check on the other hand will indicate more serious federal criminal charges, such as drug related arrests. Companies who simply perform standard background checks instead of federal criminal checks can be accidentally hiring a convicted drug dealer or drug addict without knowing it.

While background checks have proven to be an essential screening tool for many employers and large corporations, there are other ways that criminal background checks are being used as well. Many parents are beginning to use background checks as they attempt to find childcare for their children. Whether parents are looking to hire a private nanny to live in the home or if they are investigating potential baby sitters or day care company, more and more parents are performing criminal background checks to make sure they are not leavinga convicted criminal alone with their children. Running a background check is the only way for parents to truly make sure that the person taking care of their child has not served time in prison. A free criminal history check can let parents know in minutes if the person they are trusting with their child has served any sort of jail time.

Performing criminal background checks for private in- home employees doesn't just stop with babysitters. Criminal checks can be handy for investigating the past of housekeepers, personal assistants, gardeners or anyone else that may be in contact with your home or family. A free criminal history check can let anyone know, in a matter of minutes whether the people they are hiring and trusting have any sort of proven criminal past.
