There are many people who are looking for UN jobs for a few different reasons. Some individuals are looking to help struggling or impoverished areas of the world develop their economies, while others may be looking to help stop civil wars. There is no end for the reasons to wanting to work with the United Nations. The UN is actually a very large employer and has numerous employment opportunities aside from jobs at the UN headquarters in New York City. Another great benefit of getting a job with the UN is that they offer numerous opportunities for advancement within their organization and are known for promoting people from within.

It should come as no surprise that when it comes to finding employment opportunities with this global organization, there will be a great deal of competition. However, there are a few things you can do, ways you can prepare and information you can have that will help you find UN jobs and successfully apply for these jobs as well. Before you begin looking for UN jobs, there are a few decisions that you will need to make in regards to what type of UN jobs you are looking for.

The first thing you will need to decide is where you want to join the United Nations as a generalist or a specialist. Joining in a generalist position or being on the "G level" means that you will join ina secretarial, administrative or peace- keeping job. These are typically local positions. If you are looking to apply as a specialist there will be two type of positions you can apply for. A specialist typically has to have expertise in a specific area and can either join the UN in the professional level orP level or a director position on theD level. These positions include management, legal, medical and policy making positions. Typically those who take specialist positions will have international positions and should be ready to have rotations in different countries.

After determining which type of position is best for you and best fits your own experience level, you will then need to find available jobs. As most job hunters know, the best place to usually look for jobs is on the internet. This is no different when it comes to UN jobs. The internet is a great place to get started in finding UN jobs so that you can start the application process. There are numerous sites that cater specifically to UN jobs and similar types of job listings that are a good place to start. These sites will not only offer you specifics about available jobs, but about what types of qualifications are needed with these jobs.

Many people are looking for careers where they feel they can truly make a difference in the world. For those looking to have global impact with their careers, there is perhaps no better place to start than the UN. With a simple internet search many people are able to find the UN jobs they are looking for to get their career started.
